Little Store on the Prairie
or where to recycle your ink cartridges in Collin County Texas
Years ago I created a store in Allen TX to recharge inkjet cartridges for consumers, schools, churches and businesses. At first we were just trying to make a living by filling a need. Ink cartridges are ridiculously expensive. According to the manufacturers, you should throw them away when they're empty and buy another. This doesn't make much sense. You don't throw away your car when it's out of gas.
You don't even throw away a mechanical pencil when it's out of lead. You fill 'em up again. There's no reason not to do the same with printer cartridges. Manufacturing new ones uses lots of resources, mostly petroleum. Throwing away empty, but otherwise usable, cartridges unnecessarily adds to the waste stream. It can take centuries for a cartridge to decompose in a landfill.
Since then, I've really enjoyed getting involved in the community in which the store's located. Allen is a great town. One of the few things in short supply here is retail postal service.
The post office was built when the town was very small and is now overwhelmed. I added a Contract Postal Unit to our store and now we're busier than ever. We've online ink stores for those cost-conscious, environmentally aware printer owners who need our services, but live elsewhere. You can find links to those stores at the bottom center of any page of our website or go there directly. Visit us at
