Flatwoods Park is an ideal location for Inline Skaters

Nestled in Northeast Hillsborough County, Florida between Morris Bridge Road and Bruce B. Downs Blvd sits the beautiful Wilderness Flatwoods Park. The Flatwoods Park is just one of the five parks that make up the Wilderness Park system. The Wilderness parks have over 5400 acres of pure nature. The Flatwoods park is mostly known for it's 7 mile looped paved trail. Motor Vehicles are not allowed to travel the loop, making it idea for bicyclers, runners and inline skaters. The entire trail is 9 miles long with 1 mile on each side connecting to the entrances on Bruce B. Downs Blvd and Morris Bridge Rd.

The park also offers several miles of off road trails for those who prefer to hike and cycle of the beaten path. The Park has several amenities including restrooms off each entrance and a water point approximated every 1 1/2 miles around the loop. The water points offer a shaded bench to rest when needed. The Hillsoborough County Park Rangers patrol the park and the loop regularly and are more then happy to offer assistance to anyone encountering mechanical difficulty.

Enjoy the variety of local Florida foliage and wildlife while skating, bicycling, jogging or walking the trails.

What I like about Flatwoods Park

and inline skating

My husband and I have been enjoying the park since 1994. We have both walked the trails and enjoyed the peacefulness along with the beautiful natural scenery. My husband is an avid bicyclist and skater. He spends a lot of his time skating the 7 mile loop. When he has time, he sometimes skates the loop 2 to 3 times in a day. He finds this park to be almost magical. You feel rejuvenated by the serenity and magic of nature. The fresh air and being one with nature are indescribable. Discover peace and tranquility in a natural environment.

This park is a great place to bring your family. Picnic tables and grills are available if you want to take a break and enjoy your lunch in the peacefulness of nature. Whether skating, bicycling, walking, jogging or hiking the trails, you can't find a better place to get both the benefits of healthy exercise, family time and nature. The water points every 1 1/2 miles make it easy on the kids.

13.1 Million people participated in inline skating in 2006!

Did you know that more people participated in some type of inline skating than in touch football in 2006? Over 13.1 million people were rollerblading that year.

Did you know...Inline skating is as beneficial as running is for health and calorie burn. During a 30-minute period: Onaverage, inline skating at a steady comfortable rate expends 285 calories and produces a heart rate of 148 beats per minute. Inline skating is a better aerobic workout than cycling, but not as good as running. This, of course, is because people tend to coast more while cycling then blading and you can't "coast" while running. Inline skating, when compared to running, causes less than 50 percent of the impact shock to joints, therefore showing that inline skating is less harmful to the joints than the higher impact sport of running.
