Best Poems For Funerals
Saying hello or welcome doesn't really seem appropriate, you're obviously here because someone close to you has died. You have my sincere condolences.
At this hard time you are probably looking for something special to say at the funeral. Memorial poems are very touching and very moving but not all poems fit all people.
Every person is an individual and can't be remembered with general words and sentiments, that's why we have to search deep inside ourselves to pull out our deepest feelings of those we have lost to remember them with words which fit the person and their character.

Poems About The Loss Of A Loved One
Where To Begin
I hope this list will help a little
- Look at their principals and beliefs
- Were they religious?
- Look to their friends for inspiration and stories
- What were they like as friends/ parents/ grandparents/ sons or daughters etc?
- Did they live for the moment?
- Did they like to help others?
At times like this you really do need to dig down deep and find the real person that they were, many things that you find won't mean anything to a lot of people but if this was someone who was close to you like your husband/ wife / parent or child you should look for something which which best describes them to your feelings.
Many people try to cover the person as a whole, what they meant to everyone around you. unfortunately this doesn't work as you really don't know what feelings others may have about the deceased, so keep it personal.
Some of the best poems for funerals are ones which are from the heart and really do show others what they meant to you, they may not understand all of the sentiments but they will feel as if they know the person even better than they thought.

Memorial Poems
If you're looking for a poem for parents funeral you may have brothers and sisters who also want to say a poem. At this point you could either take it in turns reading "in loving memory poems" but the best way to do this is to stagger the poems throughout the funeral service, maybe have a hymn/ song or reading in between poems, this will make each funeral poem special because it breaks it up.
Best Poems For Funerals
When I first started looking for the best poems for funerals I really wasn't sure what I was looking for so I just browsed around until I found something which looked appropriate.
The book which I have shown below really was one of the best I found, it contains over 250 sympathy poems, quotations and readings which really would suit anyone.
The second book is all about writing a eulogy, this was a bit more valuable to me because I really didn't know where to start with the funeral service.
Take a look at both of these books and see what you think, they helped me a lot and I hope that they can do the same for you during this difficult time.
In Loving Memory
One Of The Best Poems For Funerals
One of my favourites (if there is such a thing on these occasions)
I am not there: I do not sleep
I am a thousand winds that blow
I am the diamond glints off snow
I am the sunlight on ripened grain
I am the gentle autumn's rain
Do not stand by my grave and mourn
I am the dew-flecked grass at dawn
Where tranquil oceans meet the land
I am the footprints in the sand
To guide you through the weary day
I am still here, I'll always stay
When you wake up to the morning hush
I am the swift uplifting rush
Of quiet birds in circled flight
I am the stars that shine at night
Do not stand at my grave and cry
I am not there: I did not die
