Famous Faces We Say Goodbye To

Here are just a few famous faces that we all know and have loved to see on film and on television. There were many celebrities that died last year and this is my dedication to some of them that made the most impact on me and my views of life. Many people may have different views about these people and that is fine, of course I did not know any of these celebrities personally so I cannot vouch for their characters, only what they did on film which impressed many people out there.

A little about me

Beatrice Arthur 1922-2009

type=textOne of the funniest women on televison I loved watching Maude and of course The Golden Girls. I am sure that many people are going to miss the wonderful actress. On maude she was the epitome of the liberal, woman's rights advocate. But she did it in such a funny fashion that only she could do. She was brilliant.

Walter Cronkite 1916-2009

type=textOne of the most famous journalist ever, Walter Cronkite was a fixture on the news channels and a great reporter. My most vivid memory of him is when they showed clips of him announcing that Neil Armstrong first landed on the moon in 1969 and Mr. Cronkite was so choked up that he was experiencing this in his lifetime and you could see it in his face but he stayed very professional.
He also announced that John F. Kennedy had been shot and killed in 1963 and had to remove his glasses because he had tears in his eyes. He was very good at his job but you could also see the human side of him.

Farrah Fawcett 1947-2009

type=textFarrach Fawcett was on television's Charlies Angels for only one season but she made a huge impact on everyone. She went on to make a couple of really good movies. My favorite being The Burning Bed, and Extremeties was pretty good.
She never became the biggest celebrity out there but everyone kind of felt a kinship with her because people of my generation kind of grew up with her.
She fought til the end with her cancer and she gave many people out there with cancer hope and the will to fight for their lives, even if it only gave them one more day.

John Hughes 1950-2009

type=textI was saddened to hear about John Hughes because I thought that he was a very good director. Some of my favorite movies that he did was Ferris Buellar's Day Off, Home Alone, Pretty in Pink, Sixteen Candles, Some kind of Wonderful, Vacation, Christmas Vacation, European Vacation, Planes, Trains, and Automobiles,The Breakfast Club, Mr. Mom and many more.

Michael Jackson 1958-2009

type=textOkay as Dorothy said to the scarecrow in the Wizard of Oz, I think I will miss you most of all! Michael Jackson's story is one that is quite sad and also inspiring. I don't know what many people think of him as far as the kind of person he was but as far as I am concerned he was a great artist and certainly made his mark in the music industry. A man who never had a childhood and died so young. I get very sad watching videos of him when he was a little boy singing because he was so talented even as a little boy. A boy who had plenty of soul. You shall be missed Michael. R.I.P

Ricardo Montalban 1920-2009

type=textAh what can I say about Ricardo Montalban, I always thought that he had the sexiest accent on the planet and didn't look too bad either. I loved watching him on Fantasy Island and movies like the Wrath of Kahn which happens to be my favorite Star Trek Movie. He really was a good actor and I am sure paved the way for other latin stars.

Brittany Murphy 1977-2009

type=textOkay I didn't know much about Brittany Murphy, at this writing I think the jury is still out on what actually killed her. There has been much speculation surrounding her death, apparently she had a cardiac arrest which is rare for someone her age. Whatever it is, it is quite sad. I have to admit that I wasn't a big fan of Brittany and don't know much about her but I added her here for the fact that she is just another casualty amongst young hollywood stars that are taken much too soon. Sorry to see you go.

Natasha Richardson 1963-2009

type=textNatasha Richardson was an actress that was in lots of movies but she really didn't reach the stardom that her famous mother did, Vannessa Redgrave. I am a big fan of Vanessa Redgrave, especially in her performance in Camalott. Natasha was born into a famous family, The Redgraves, Lyn and Vannessa were huge in England. Natasha is also the sister of Joely Richardson whom played in the series Nip Tuck.
Natasha died from an accident while skiing in Quebec, she has two children and was married to Leeam Neeson at the time of her death.

Eunice Shriver 1921-2009

type=textI don't know much about Eunice Shriver other than she is part of the Kennedy clan. She was the sister of the president JFK and she is also the mother of Maria Shriver. I know that she was a very influencial person and I added her here because she was a big advocate for special needs children and is the one that started the special olympics. I always thought that she had a lot of class.
Born in Brookline, Massachusetts, the fifth of nine children of Joseph P. and Rose Fitzgerald Kennedy, Eunice Mary Kennedy received a Bachelor of Arts degree in sociology from Stanford University in Palo Alto, California.

Ron Silver 1946-2009

type=textRon Silver, the Tony Award-winning actor who had an impressive list of roles based on real-life figures in movies including "Reversal of Fortune" and "Ali, died at the age of 62.
Silver, a longtime liberal political activist who became an outspoken supporter of former President George W. Bush's military response to 9/11, died of esophageal cancer in New York. He had an active role in The West Wing on televison but after backing president Bush he wasn't able to get many more roles in Hollywood. He was one of those character actors who had been around forever and was in lots of television roles and movies.

Patrick Swayze 1952-2009

type=textI was very saddened by the passing of Patrick Swayze because he fought so hard to fight his cancer. He was a great actor and my favorite Swayze movie is Ghost, although I did love his dancing in Dirty Dancing, which I think is the movie that really made him a big star. I thought that it was sweet that he married his high school sweetheart and that they were married for over 30 years. That doesn't happen very often in Hollywood. The world became just a little colder since his passing. You shall be missed.

Last but not least

Famous Quote

"Somebody should tell us, right at the start of our lives, that we are dying. Then we might live life to the limit, every minute of every day. Do it! I say. Whatever you want to do, do it now! There are only so many tomorrows."
Pope Paul VI quotes (Italian Pope. 1897-1978)
