Collectibles and Memories
There's a room
in my house
I enter every day.
It's not the biggest, nor the cleanest.
It has very little furniture
and no real decor.
It's not glamorous
or fancy. In fact,
it's hidden....past the laundry room, through my bathroom and closed off from my bedroom by a typical, white,
six panel door. But alongside my clothes,
shoes, scarves and coats are the remnants of my past,
keepsakes from my family,
and collectibles
that seem to be waiting patiently
for their time
to shine.
My little stash of treasures.
Daddy's Little Girl

This is my father and I at a General Electric company picnic in upstate New York in October 1970. He framed it and sent it to me a few years ago while he was sorting through family photos.
Coin Collection

I've never actually "collected" coins - I simply acquired them throughout life. My earliest memory of any of these coins is when I was somewhere between 8-10 years old. My mom, brothers and sister and I were at an airport to pick up my dad who was returning from a business trip. I scooped my hand through the change holder of every payphone in the airport and came up with a small coin from Netherlands. My kids love to look through this box.
Pens

I LOVE pens - all kinds, sizes, colors. My friends and family know that and I receive several beautiful pens a year. I use them until the provided ink runs out and then they get stored because buying refills is apparently too much of a hassle for me. Hence, they end up in the closet.
Star Wars and Transformers Collectibles

I might take up more than my share of the closet, but my husband has one very large box full of Star Wars and Transformers items - all unopened. There's another high shelf piled with more of these and some 1:18 scale Matchbox cars.
One Right Shoe

There is no mate. I know that but I keep it anyway in the hopes that the left one will show up some day because I really, really liked these shoes. They weren't spendy and they're probably not even in style anymore but they were so darn fun.
Autographed Football
"To Joe, With Friendship, Dick Butkus, HOF 79"

My name is not Joe, my husband's name is not Joe and none of our kids are named Joe. The friend who had an opportunity to get a signed ball for my husband is named Joe. We already have a Dick Butkus football made out to my husband so until we make another friend named Joe to whom we could give this ball, it sits in my closet.
Jewelry Box

This jewelry box was a gift from my parents and is around 26 years old. It held my teenage treasures but most have moved on to new homes so the holdings are a bit paltry now. The die is probably not a treasure. Not sure why that's in there. The green charm is from my high school graduation tassel. The pin says "Men will be boys". I might have to pull that out every now and then as I'm the mother of three of them.
Compass

A gift received at a business conference and it was too nice to toss but I've never had a need for a compass in my life. However, I suppose I will never have an excuse for getting lost in my closet.
Out of Print Book

This was one of my favorite books as a kid but I lost my copy along the way of life. A few years ago, my mother found an old copy through a book service. I think it had a cover when she gave it to me but I "enjoy" books, I don't "preserve" them.
New York Yankees Bear

My husband and I took a trip to New York City in 2002. We saw the Yankees play in Yankee Stadium on September 9th of that year, the one year anniversary of 9/11. It was sad, humbling and memorable all at the same time.
Family Jewelry

Two rings my mother-in-law gave me that I completely forgot I had until I went digging. Oooohhh...new jewelry!
A Special Scarf

The rose-patterned scarf on the left was a gift from my sister after her trip to Paris. It's my absolute, favorite scarf.
Suitcase

Another gift from my parents. That suitcase and I have traveled over 500,000 miles together. It can hold a week's worth of clothes and all the makeup/shoes I need. If it ever falls apart, I'll be devastated.
You Can't Have This One

I've never had any formal training in HTML. I've been relying on some extremely helpful Squidoo lenses and this handy, can't-live-without-it book. Like my colorful notes and tabs? Nope, you can't have this one.

My Favorite Charity
Spina Bifida Association of Western Pennsylvania
While not a Squidoo partner charity at this time (I'm working on them), they are my favorite charity specifically because my dad is a board member and donates considerable time and energy to their organization. He does not have to do this, he chooses to do this and for that reason, he makes us (his family) all very, very proud. If you would like to contribute to this non-profit organization, or simply want to learn more about Spina Bifida, please follow the button to their web page for more information.

What's in Your Closet?
More than clothes? Every time I browse through these pictures, I think I'm looking at an eBay listing, but these are not for sale - yet (those Star Wars figures have got to go someday....)
Feel free to disclose a treasure you have in your closet or just leave a comment letting me know what you think about this lens. Thanks!
(Keep your answers clean, please! Some of what's in your closet should probably stay a secret :)

- This is a rare glimpse into the woman behind the empire! I'm adding it to my fans-thank-you lens. In my closet (downstairs): piles of unsold cds; a garbage can full of sunflower seeds for the birds; sound system; nails, screws, bolts, staples; five vintage Franz metronomes I bought on ebay cause they don't make them any more and I'm hoarding; about 1,000 connectors for equipment of different gauges.

- Ok, you inspired me to muster up enough courage to look through my closet. And, guess what? I found your other shoe! (just kidding, of course!) 5*
