Innotek Ultrasmart Remote Trainer: The solution for problem dog behaviors

Many dog owners know the frustration of having a dog that won't behave. Whether it is excessive barking, jumping up on guests, getting into things they shouldn't, or even running away....behavior problems can make it a chore to have a dog, rather than the joy it should be. Severe behavior problems can cause problems for the dog as well, such as eating things that can make the dog sick and even running into traffic. Many dog owners exhaust themselves with all manner of reward systems...things like squirting water, coins in a can, newspaper, and positive rewards like treats...that just don't work for many dogs.

But I recently came across a system that has worked for many pet owners who had just about given up trying to train their dogs: the Innotek Ultrasmart Remote Trainer.

Variety of options for effective dog training

I have found that there is a lot to like about the Innotek Ultrasmart Remote Trainer. For starters, it has a 300 yard range, which allows the dog owner to correct problem behaviors from quite a distance. And I especially like the fact that there are actually 9 stimulation levels, as well as the tone-only training option, which provides a wide range of choices for training your dog. You can choose the lowest one available and then move up until you find the minimum level which works with your dog.

An additional benefit is that, unlike other similar products, this is all one piece, rather than a box that hangs from a regular collar: in other works, it ensures contact, making it more likely to be effective. And it is waterproof, so your dog can swim with it on.

Especially nice is the fact that it is small, with a handheld transmitter that will actually fit in your pocket. I find this feature to be especially convenient when training on walks. The receiver is one of the smallest around, which is another great benefit. And with the option to have a rechargeble battery, you don't have to worry about batteries going dead.

I think what I find to be most beneficial about the Innotek Ultrasmart Remote Trainer however, is the support that you receive, both in the training videos that come with it, as well as the 24 hour support hotline that is available from Innotek for questions that you may have. Personally, I have found with my own dogs, that having support available for questions...when things aren't quite working....is invaluable, and I am impressed that Innotek provides this to their customers.

I buy a lot of things from Amazon and seldom feel compelled to write a review. I am so delighted with the results of this product that I had to review it. We have tried for 9 months, since adopting our eighteen month old Golden, to stop him from counter-surfing and jumping on guests. It was no fun to have people over because of his awful behavior, even though he is a sweet dog. I tried everything, reading books, consulting trainers, leashes, etc. etc. This collar stopped both behaviors IN ONE DAY and he only had to receive one correction!!! Now we only use the tone and he stops whatever he's doing. If your dog is trained to an invisible fence, I think the connection of the tone and the stimulation is made more quickly. I am so thrilled that we bought this collar. We had company and served food all weekend and he never jumped or counter-surfed once!! It is a new life for us with him. All our guests enjoyed being around him and praised his good behavior which has never happened. Now we are going to use it on our other Golden for excessive barking in the yard. I am a believer!!! This was some of the best money I've ever spent.

We have a 1 year old Beagle/Boston Terrier Mix, and she loves to take off when she sees other people or animals. After we put the collar on her a couple times, we can just give the warning tone and she stops what she's doing. Also, with having the Beagle nose, she is constantly sniffing things that she shouldn't, and now we don't have anymore problems. We were worried about the battery life, but we haven't had a problem. We only put the collar on when necessary, and turn it off as soon as we are done using it. Overall, it worked very well for us, it was well worth the money!

We have a 85lb, 6 year old shepherd/retriever mix. We'd done the basics with her but were constantly battling her fence-climbing abilities. I assumed she was too set in her ways to change anything. Out of desperation we hired a friend of the family that has over 20 years of training service dogs and dogs for AKC and CKC obedience shows.
Anyway, she said it's not her first choice to go to a zap collar but with our dog's age, size, and her lack of response to noises (i.e. coins in a can) it was a good place to start. It has been amazing and only after 3 weeks.

We purchased 2 collars (other brands) in the past. We got a response out of her but the short training videos that come with the product were useless. The batteries in the other collars kept dying and we'd be buying new batteries every week. The rechargeable feature of this collar is great. Additionally, the other nylon collars that we used broke or tore away from shocking unit. The all-in-one collar was the way to go. This time we opted for the trainer in addition to the collar. It's helping train her and us. We don't use the "zap" for every area of the training but it has been great for recalls and keeping her off the fence. Those were our biggest issues. If we didn't correct those problems they could be life threatening to her.

We're borrowing the collar as part of the training right now, but I'm purchasing one this week. Again, she's not a small dog, but we're not "zapping" her at the highest levels. 4 got a big reaction out of her so her normal setting is 3. When she breaks the fence boundary though she'll get a boost at 5. She's a smart dog. Since she was a puppy she has broken or climbed (over or under) of every enclosure that she's been in. Not anymore. It has taken more vigilance on our part, but the training and collar (not one without the other) has kept us from pulling our hair out..
