The INSIGNIA DIGITAL TO ANALOG CONVERTER BOXIn February 2009, the US will switch from analog broadcasting to digital, forcing people who get their TV over the airwaves to buy a Digital to Analog converter box. Have you tried a converter box on your TV yet? Having difficulty with reception or missing your favorite channels??
Two things you need to keep in mind after reading this article:
1. A lot of the stations are still running at slightly reduced power, and with digital, that could be the difference between seeing the channel or not seeing it at all. There's no in-between (snow, etc.). Before you go out and spend money on an expensive new antenna, check to make sure that the station you're not receiving digitally is already broadcasting at the full power they'll be using in February 2009. The website www.antennaweb.org will tell you where the signals and channels are available, just put in your zip code to check it out.
2. Some channels are currently broadcasting digitally on a UHF channel. When the cutover in February 2009 happens, they'll be moving their digital broadcasts from the UHF channel back to their usual channel slot in the VHF band.
Another issue you may encounter after the conversion is using your old VCR to record programs. Like your Analog signal TV--The old VCR's have an ANALOG tuner and once the switch over is made in Feb. you will have to hook your VCR up to your new Converter box in order to record your programs. BUT unlike before you will NOT be able to watch another channel while recording on the old VCR and if your not home you are limited to recording on just the one station, since you are basically by-passing the VCR's analog tuner so it can't change channels. You have to do it manually. Your only other option would be to get a new VCR with a ATSC (digital) tuner.
