1. Be sensitive to your body's need of rest. Stop working late at night. You need to rest your body and mind to remain productive each day. You got to have time to rest and sleep everyday. This means further that you need to set a fix pattern of sleep and waking time for yourself. Sleeping during the day to fill in the lack of sleep at night is not a solution. It makes you feel more tired if you do this.
2. Create an environment of sleep and rest. Don't make your bedroom an office. Maintain a moderate temperature, dim or shut the lights when going to sleep, listen to soft light music and reduce noise. This will tell your body and mind that it is time to rest.
3. Be active during the day. Work and do some exercises. But slow activities down towards the end of the day. This will make a signal the body to get ready for rest.
4. Eat dinner at least four hours before bedtime. Don't eat too much though. Make your dinner light. A light snack before bedtime is known to aid in falling asleep.
5. A warm bath will aid in falling asleep as well. When the body is warm there is a tendency to fall asleep.
6. Do some regular fixed rituals before going to bed to further tell the body its time to rest, like checking all the doors and putting off lights.
7. Avoid drinking coffee and smoking. Nicotine and Caffeine will keep your brain active because these are potent stimulants.
