Very informative lens, Here's something that I want to share. I thought the EFT procedures seemed very weird and I didn't expect them to work for me.

I am 38 years old, and as long as I can remember I've had insomnia. My husband's uncle sent us EFT training videos. One afternoon I tapped for insomnia, and that very night I was asleep in fifteen minutes, itching the entire time. I then had a horrific nightmare that woke me up screaming. So I got up and went into the living room and tapped for the specific nightmare, and then tapped for nightmares in general, and for any remaining insomnia. I went back to bed and quickly went to sleep, no more nightmares--even though I itched, I went to sleep.

For three nights, I experienced quick and pleasant sleep!! The first in 30 years!! So I tapped for the itching, and that night, my body was free from it!!

I never count sheep, but I totally agree with Tip #1 - exercise does make a big difference. In Western society today people don't get enough exercise and instead depend on pills to help them get to sleep.

Sleep and Why It is So Important to Health

Do you know why we need to have a good night's sleep?

The average number of hours of sleep is generally considered to be 8 hours per day. However some people sleep for longer whilst others may function successful on 4 or 5 hours of sleep.

Why do we need sleep though? Here are some research that explains why sleep is so important to us.

1) Healing and sleep. When we sleep, and as the body rests, so our healing immune system can do some of their best work to repair damage and fight infection.

2) Sleep and mood. A lack of sleep leads to that tired feeling and our stress levels increase making us irritable and snappy.

3) Sleep helps the memory. During sleep our minds organise and compound our memories.

4) REM and sleep. A vital part of sleep is the REM or Rapid Eye Movement phase. Deprivation of this phase for extended periods of time can lead to mental instability.

5) Metabolism and sleep. Sleep helps metabolism. Insomnia affects the release of hormones which in turn alters our appetite.

As sleep is so vital, it is important to act on any early signs that sleep problems are turning into insomnia. The sooner you do something about sleep disturbance the more likely you are to resolve it.

Why Do We Need Sleep?

What happens when we sleep?

Sleep is not an optional part of a lifestyle. Sleep is a necessity. Sleeping is vital for our physical and mental abilities.

Most adults need 8 hours sleep to feel like they have benefitted. This is an average figure and some people need more and some less. Generally as you get older the less sleep you are likely to need if you are an active person.

Intereestingly, sleeping for too long can lead to a feeling of lethargy. So there is a balance between too much and not enough sleep.

There is also a connection between depression and insomnia.

Insomnia and Depression

Does insomnia go with being depressed?

This can be a bit like the question which came first, the chicken or the egg?

There is no doubt that some people who suffer from insomnia become depressed or at least experience more low moods.

On the other hand, some people who are depressed are also likely to have broken, disturbed sleep or difficulty in getting to sleep.
