John Thaw was Inspector Morse
The ReMORSEful Day : Victoria Arms Marston
Famous Punting Destination Pub. A historic riverside pub, site of the old ferry access to the River Cherwell. Appeared many times in Inspector Morse but most famous for Morse's stunning recital of "The Remorseful Day" by A.E Houseman clairvoying both the death of the character of Inspector Morse and also sadly John Thaw himself.

The Black Prince Pub, Woodstock, where Inspector Morse began
The Last Bus to Woodstock
This was Colin Dexter's first Inspector Morse book and he actually used the real name of the pub; in later books he would thinly disguise the names. This is a lovely pub in Old Woodstock with the River Glyme running by. In the 'Last Bus to Woodstock' the flighty Sylvia Kaye, is found murdered in the car park.

Private Death name on Bonn Pace War Memorial
Inspector notes in one of the stories that one of the names on the War Memorial in Bonn Place for the Boer War is "Private Death"
