The Journey
From Spirit Art - June 5, 2008

Quotes on Journey by Joseph Campbell:
"If the path before you is clear, you're probably on someone else's."
"The hero journey is inside of you; tear off the veils
and open the mystery of your self."

DON'T QUIT!

Don't Quit
When things go wrong as they sometimes will,
When the road you're trudging seems all uphill,
When the funds are low and the debts are high
And you want to smile, but you have to sigh,
When care is pressing you down a bit,
Rest, if you must, but don't quit.
Life is queer with its twists and turns,
As everyone of us sometimes learns,
And many a failure turns about
When he might have won had he stuck it out;
Don't give up though the pace seems slow
You may succeed with another blow.
Success is failure turned inside out---
The silver tint of the clouds of doubt,
And you never can tell just how close you are,
It may be near when it seems so far;
So stick to the fight when you're hardest hit---
It's when things seem worst that you must not quit.

Staying Flexible
The Symbolism of the Big Horn Sheep
In this extremely fast pace world, we all need to stay flexible. More than at any other time on earth, things are changing at an amazing rate. We can all learn a lesson from the symbolism of the mountain sheep. Its special attributes include a thick coat that repels the elements, suction like soles that cling and an elastic frame that allows it to absorb shocks and do things impossible to others.
Quotations on Flexibility:
"Men are born soft and supple; dead, they are stiff and hard. Plants are born tender and pliant; dead, they are brittle and dry. Thus whoever is stiff and inflexible is a disciple of death. Whoever is soft and yielding is a disciple of life. The hard and stiff will be broken. The soft and supple will prevail." ~ Lao Tzu
"God turns you from one feeling to another and teaches by means of opposites, so that you will have two wings to fly, not one." ~ Mevlana Rumi

Quotes By Joseph Campbell

"When you follow your bliss, you begin to meet people who are in the field of your bliss, and they open the doors to you." ~ Joseph Campbell
"The goal of life is to make your heartbeat match the beat of the universe, to match your nature with Nature."
"Find a place where there's joy, and the joy will burn out the pain."
"Opportunities to find deeper powers within ourselves come when life seems most challenging."
"People say that what we're seeking is a meaning for life... I think that what we're seeking is an experience of being alive, so that we actually feel the rapture of being alive."

Cardinal is Symbolic of Friendship and Family Ties
I Thank All of You for Your Support and Friendship! ~ Sandy

If I could catch a rainbow,
I would do it just for you.
And share with you its beauty,
On the days you're feeling blue.
If I could build a mountain,
You could call your very own.
A place to find serenity,
A place to be alone.
If I could take your troubles,
I would toss them in the sea.
But all these things I'm finding,
Are impossible for me.
I cannot build a mountain,
Or catch a rainbow fair.
But let me be what I know best,
A friend that's always there.

Inspirational Books I Recommend

Worry

I often listen to people talk about how much they worry. Although they realize it doesn't accomplish anything, with some it has become a tough habit to break. Often I repeat affirmations to myself which reinforce positive optimistic thought. It always helps to keep things in perspective.
Some quotations on Worry:
"Worry gives a small thing a big shadow. " ~ Swedish Proverb
"Worry is a think-stream of fear which, if encouraged, becomes a wide channel into which all other thoughts flow." ~ Unknown
"Worry is interest paid on trouble before it is due." ~ William Ralph Inge
"Ulcers aren't the result of what you eat. You get ulcers from what's eating you." ~ Anonymous
"Worry is like a rocking chair, it gives you something to do but it doesn't get you anywhere." ~ Dorothy Galyean

Take Hold Of Every Moment

A friend of mine opened his wife's underwear drawer and picked up a silk paper wrapped package. "This," he said, "isn't any ordinary package." He unwrapped the box and stared longingly at both the silk paper and the box. "She got this the first time we went to New York, 8 or 9 years ago. She has never put it on. She was saving it for a special occasion. Well, I guess this is it." He got near the bed and placed the gift box next to the other clothing he was taking to the funeral home. His wife had just died. He turned to me and said; "Never save something for a special occasion. Every day in your life should be a special occasion."
Those words changed my life. Now I read more and clean less. I sit on the porch without worrying about anything. I spend more time with my family, and less at work. I understood that life should be a source of experience to be lived fully, not survived through. I no longer keep anything for a special occasion. I use crystal glasses every day. I'll wear new clothes to go to the supermarket if i feel like it. I don't save my special perfume for special occasions, I use it whenever I want to. The words "Someday..." and "One Day..." are fading away from my vocabulary. If it's worth seeing, listening or doing, I want to see, listen or do it now! I don't know what my friend's wife would have done if she knew she wouldn't be there the next morning. This nobody can tell. I think she might have called her relatives and closest friends. She might call old friends to make peace over past quarrels. I'd like to think that she would go out for Chinese, her favorite food. It's these small things that I would regret not doing, if I knew my time had come.
I would regret that I could no longer do the things I intended to do, see the friends I care about or compose the letters that I meant to write . . . "One of these days". I would regret and feel sad, because I didn't say to my friends and family, not enough at least, just what they mean to me and how much I love them. Now, I try not to delay, postpone or keep anything for another day that could bring laughter and joy into our lives. And each morning, I give thanks and say to myself that this is a special day! Each day, each hour, each minute, is special.
