Learn How to Setup a Wordpress Blog in Under 9 Minutes!

So, you are looking for help setting up a Wordpress blog? Luckily, you have come to the right place! This tutorial will walk you through each step of setting up your Wordpress blog on Bluehost
.

*Please note that this is very easy to do, and you don't have to be an expert web designer to set up a Wordpress blog. Following the below steps and installing Wordpress yourself will save you upwards of $500 in fees from a web designer.

So...let's get started!

Step #1: Sign Up for Hosting from Bluehost

Before we can begin installing Wordpress, you will need to select a host to hold your blog pages online. For the purposes of this tutorial I will be using Bluehost
as the example, because they offer an easy 1-click installation of Wordpress. I highly recommend you also use Bluehost
, or another host that offers a similar 1-click installation.

Visit Bluehost
and sign up for an account. One year of hosting will cost you around $95 (or 7.95 a month). Bluehost
will also provide you with a free domain name. You will need to select a domain name that best matches your blog name.

Go ahead and sign up for an account with Bluehost
, and then login into your account.

Step #2: Finding Fantastico in Your Bluehost cPanel

Once you sign into your Bluehost
account, you will find that you are on a page that is called cPanel. cPanel (control Panel) is a graphical web-hosting control panel, designed to make administration of your website easy.

Scroll down the page and find the category titled Software/Services as shown in the picture below, and click on the Fantastico De Luxe icon.

Step #3: Choose the Wordpress Software on Fantastico

You should now be on the Fantastico screen on Bluehost. Fantastico is a script that automates the installation of web applications to a website, which means money-savings for you!

Fantastico allows you to install a variety of software, but for the purposes of this tutorial, we will focus on Wordpress. Click on word Wordpress, which you will find located underneath the "Blogs" heading on your left-hand side.

Right after you click the word Wordpress, the right side of your screen will populate with information regarding Wordpress.
Find the words "New Installation" and click on them.

Step #4: Providing Your Information for the Wordpress Install

You will now find yourself on a page that is asking you to provide them with details on your blog.

  1. Install on Domain: This is the name of the domain you want to put your website on - your own dot com. Bluehost
provides you with one free domain with their annual hosting plan if you don't already have a domain.
  2. Install in Directory: Leave this field empty, and they will automatically create a directory for your new blog.
  3. Admin Username: Create a unique username, and save it somewhere secure. Your username will be needed to login into the Wordpress software and make updates to your blog.
  4. Admin Password: Also be sure to select a password that will prevent harmful people from hacking into your new blog.
  5. Admin Nickname: Choose a catchy name for yourself, as this will be displayed publicly. Type in your real name or a nickname here (this can be changed later).
  6. Admin Email: Type in an email account that you would like to be contacted at in case of emergency or for notifications.
  7. Site Name: Type in your site's name here, it will be shown on all the pages (you can change this later if you choose).
  8. Description: Create a quick summary of your site and be sure to include your slogan (you can change this later if you choose).
  9. -12. You can skip these questions, unless you'd like to blog by email.

You are now ready to click the Install Wordpress button!

Step #5: Finalizing the Wordpress Install

You should now find yourself on the final confirmation screen! Down at the bottom, you will find an input field for email. Submit a personal email account that you regularly check and hit "Send E-mail". You will get a copy of your installation information including your user login and password.

Before leaving the confirmation screen, you will also be provided with a link to the admin area of your Wordpress installation. Please be sure to bookmark it, so that you can login to your blog account.

Final Thoughts

Congratulations! You have successfully installed Wordpress on Bluehost
as your blogging engine. You can now visit the bookmarked link that was provided to you at the confirmation screen to login into to your account.

Like I've mentioned before, there are some web designers that would charge you $$$ to install this type of software. It is a little bit of work, but with a touch of effort you were able to save yourself a nice chunk of change!

Good luck with your future blogging efforts. I hope this tutorial was helpful!
