How to Integrate a Blog into Your Website

Ranked #978 in Education, #23,578 overall

Have you ever wished you had your own blog in your website?

You've probably read a few yourself and maybe you've even started your own. One of the best ways to do this is to integrate the blog directly into your website so that it becomes part of the overall 'look and feel' of your site.

This lens is here to help you along with a little bit of inspiration, by showing the kind of integrated blogs you can create. If you want to try doing it yourself, you can head over to infinite42 and find out how to integrate a blog into your website.

I've included a section here where you can share your favorite websites that include their own blog. You can use this to show off some sites that you think will inspire others, or even to promote your own!

At the end of the lens there are a couple of sections where you can share your own ideas about the best ways to set up a blog within a website.

Integrated on my website is better

petemism says:

Hmmm.. I'm figuring on doing both. Integrating blog content to the pages of sites to which they relate, while also maintaining the blogs as standalone entities( at the Ice Factory project This with a view to maximising backlinkiing possibilities ad Search engine visibility.
P.S.
spotted a typo..separate :)

JeremiahStanghini says:

It draws more traffic when it's integrated.

JeremiahStanghini says:

Integrated... Helps with traffic to your site!

daybreak says:

I have almost every variation. Wordpress has so many features now, that it can handle it all. I like to set up Wordpress as a CMS and have the blog component appear off the home page.

No, a seperate blog is better

The_Health_Lady says:

I've actually done both. In the last 2 years or so I have only created blogs & dropped static sites.

spirituality says:

I don't get the question... But for technical reasons I've gone for seperate blogs in my own case.

Wordpress or Blogger?

Which is the best blogging platform?

This one is a bit like religion but the truth is that there are pros and cons for each. Which one is your favorite though? Which works best for your website or your business?

Wordpress is best

The_Health_Lady says:

A Wordpress blog self hosted is the only way to go. I will however use a blogger blog just for back links, but you have to remember that Wordpress or blogger hosted blogs can get nuked at their whim/

zentao says:

self hosted wordpress is a lot better

Distrx says:

Wordpress is far more customizable and definitely the best option if you have your own hosting in my opinion! However, Blogger is still great if you are looking for a free option that is easy to set-up and maintain.

spirituality says:

For a self hosted blog wordpress is better. It just has more options.

No, Blogger is best

KarenTBTEN says:

I do want to distinguish here between Wordpress blogs hosted by Wordpress (at Wordpress.com) and those that are self-hosted. There are a lot of things one can do with a self-hosted Wordpress blog if they get the plug-ins etc. But Wordpress.com has far more restrictions in place (in terms of widgets, codes etc.) than other blogging platforms. I can do pretty much whatever I want on Blogger in terms of embedding multimediamedia that I've created using online programs, and it's pretty simple.

What About RSS for an Integrated Blog?

This might be a confusing question, so bear with me.

RSS feeds are used to publish content from all kinds of websites - Twitter feeds, delicious bookmarks, blogs and of course Squidoo! If a site owner provides an RSS feed then they are basically saying 'feel free to display my content wherever your want'. Some people read RSS feeds of their favorite blogs in an RSS reader and this let's them read and keep up-to-date on a wide range of blogs very quickly. You can also display an RSS feed directly in your website, so if your own blog has an RSS, so this is one simple option for integrating your blog.

If you use the RSS idea, you don't get quite the same level of blog capability as other options. For example, readers can't enter comments directly on your website - they would need to head over to your blog to do this. It's a quick solution though.

I like blogs so much better than the older HTML sites but I can see blogs slowly disappearing as more and more want short, quick info and no longer read like they use to.
