Intelligence, defined broadly, is a process, focused externally, designed to reduce the level of uncertainty for a decisionmaker using information from all sources.

The ideas traditionally associated with intelligence, such as spying, covert action and espionage, are no longer sufficient to describe the wide variety of intelligence activities that occur daily.

There are three generally accepted categories of intelligence:  National security intelligence, business intelligence and law enforcement intelligence.  Another, nascent, category is that of non-governmental organization (NGO)  intelligence.  While the US has the most well known intelligence communities, all three categories of intelligence are practised worldwide.

Governmental and commercial intelligence agencies are active in all three categories of intelligence.  Intelligence Studies is a new academic discipline attempting to understand the process and products of the various intelligence communities worldwide.

I have designed this lens to serve as a portal for those interested in intelligence activities and intelligence studies.
