Welcome to Intelligence Jobs And Internships!
This lens contains information that should be helpful for people searching for analyst jobs or internships in the business, law enforcement or national security intelligence communities.
I cannot vouch for the sites nor can I guarantee success but if I see something that might be useful to an analyst looking for a job or internship, I will post it here. I welcome feedback on this section.

Where To Find Intel Jobs
- USAJobs.gov
- One stop shopping for intelligence jobs in the US Government. Almost all require a clearance but most do not require that you have the clearance when applying.
- SCIP Career Center
- Sponsored by the Soceity of Competitive Intelligence Professionals (SCIP), this site is dedicated to indivdiuals interested in careers in business or competitive intelligence.
- IntelligenceCareers.com
- This site contains mostly jobs for contractors seeking cleared workers to support their contracts. There are some jobs here that only require the applicant to be clearable.
- ClearanceJobs.com
- Like Intelligence Careers.com, this site supports contractors looking for already cleared people looking for jobs.
- ClearedConnections.com
- Another job site for people already possessing clearances.
- Monster.com
- Search under "intelligence analyst" (be sure to use the quotes) and you will find nearly 1000 law enforcement, business and national security jobs. You may want to narrow it by industry. Don't be too restrictive -- I checked it out and you would be surprised to see where there are intel jobs.
- Craigslist.org (Washington Version)
- Craigslist has become the web's de facto classified advertising service. The site above links to Washington DC version of Craigslist. 10 million people use Craigslist to find everything from jobs to apartments to furniture. A quick search of this service (using just "analyst" as a search term) yielded about 10 good intel analyst jobs out of 500 hits. Fortunately the layout of the list made it easy to weed through the bad hits to find the good ones. Definitely worth a look.
- Business Analyst Positions
- The Vault is a jobs search board like Monster. Search under "analyst" and you will likely find a few intelligence-like or researcher positions that might not be posted elsewhere. "Intelligence analyst" yielded no hits on my search so be creative.
- Google Base
- Google Base is a bit like Craigslist. It taps into a different set of job lists than does Craigslist, however. "Intelligence analyst" in Washington DC drug up a surprising number of hits. You can also use the Google Base as a way to look for apartments, etc.
- Fortune 100 Best Companies To Work For
- This site geographically locates the Fortune 100's Best Companies To Work For List. To exploit this list I would pick a company and then go that company's website to see what jobs are available. While there is no guarantee that any of these companies have a need for an intel analyst (or something like an intel analyst), you at least know that the comlany is a good one to work for. It will require some legwork, of course, but if you have geographic restrictions or you are particularly interested in business intel, it is a strategy that might pay off.
- SimplyHIred.com
- I really like SimplyHired. It has an easy to use interface that seems to get jobs from many good places. Try searching under "intelligence analyst", "market analyst" or "research analyst" for best results.
- Best Jobs in The USA Today
- A comprehensive job resource site that includes jobs databases, corporate profiles, resume posting, and a career resources store.
- Career.com
- Lists job opportunities, searchable by company, location, and discipline.
- Career Journal
- Job opportunities, and a lot of useful tips.
- Career Magazine
- A collection of job opportunities displayed in a convenient, searchable manner.
- Career Surf
- More and more job opportunities ...
- College Job Board
- Prepared especially for students and alumni of high schools and colleges. Facilitates job (internship, full-time, part-time, and temporary positions) search, resume posting, scholarship searches, and job search tips.
- College Recruiter
- Jobs for college students, grads and recent graduates.
- Employment Guide
- Job searching, resume posting, career advice. Overview of localized jobs (a total of 56 metropolitan areas) that facilitates looking for employment in a specific geographic area.
- Fresh Jobs
- Displays job offers not older than one week. Search by location, skills, benefits, job type, or company. Resume posting is possible.
- Get The Job
- Big job searching site.
- Job Center USA
- Powerful, general job search engine.
- Job Factory
- Pretends to become the most comprehensive source information related to job searching in the USA. Links to more than 20,000 job sites and more than 1,000 recruiter sites.
- True Careers
- Another general job searching site.
- Yahoo Hot Jobs
- According to some, the best career information in the web. Allows to search for jobs, post resume, compare salaries and find career advice. Frequently updated.
- Now Hiring
- Job opportunities, job articles, job tips. Job listings by state and city.
- Pro Hire
- One of the largest free job sites, more than 150,000 job openings worldwide (including the U.S.). Resumes posting, jobs database, useful information and tips.
- CAREER TOOLBOX: 100+ Places to Find Jobs
- The link to a website which presents over 100 sites for job listings, resume reviews, networking and more.
Job Hunting Advice
- Best of Washington DC
- This is a lens by someone who lives in DC. The links are a bit hit and miss but there is likely something here that is valuable. You can also contact the lensmaster for additional info.
- DC Home Prices
- This link uses a Google Maps mashup to show selected prices of selected houses in the District itself.
- How to Live In Airports
- This is a good lens about how to make frequent air travel more comfortable. It contains links to everything from seat assignments on particular types of airlines to wait times at security checkpoints.
- The Resume Center At monster.com
- Some good advice on how to prepare a resume. I particularly like the targeted advice section in the left hand column.
- The Resume Tutor
- The University of Minnesota has done a very good job of walking you through the process of building a resume in their Resume Tutor website.
- How To Clean Up Your Digital Dirt
- Use FaceBook? Sure you do. Do you want your prospective employer to see your entry? Maybe not... It may be time to clean up your digital dirt. This article gives you some tips on where to look and what to do.
- GetMakeOvers.com
- Image management is important in any career. It is particularly important in the Intelligence Community. This site allows you try on new "looks" without the expense or hassle. Along with LandsEnd's Virtual Model, it is one of the best free programs for a virtual "try before you buy" experience.
- 25 Words That Hurt Your Resume
- I don't agree with all of the choices, but the article is worth the read ("good" resume words come in and out of fashion -- it is worth reading articles like this when you are on the hunt for a job).
- Insurance Information Institute
- One of the first things you will need as a new member of the full time workforce is insurance. The Insurance Information Institute has some pretty good advice on the different types of insurance you will need at different stages in your life. The site also provides you with some useful tools and general info as well. It is unclear who is funding the site but the Institute claims that it does not lobby and that its only mission is to provide high quality info on the insurance industry.
- DC Commuter
- For all of you who have to fight the unspeakable horror of the DC commute each day, this lens was made for you!
- Seven Career Killers
- Kiplinger Magazine's take on the seven deadly sins.
More Job Hunting Sites
- PageBites Job Search Engine
- PageBites is a search engine dedicated to finding jobs. The interface is clean and easy to use. I started with the search term "intelligence analyst" in quotes and was very pleasantly surprised by the results.
- CIA Careers Site
- The CIA does not list at USAJobs.com. In order to apply, you have to do it through the CIA website at the link above. At the link you will find a list of jobs. If the job is listed, then it is highly likely that there are openings (though you will get no idea of how many). You can submit your resume online. I recommend that you use a streamlined, customized resume.
- DOD JobSearch
- The Department Of Defense's JobSearch site is designed to help soldiers who are separating from the service find jobs. That said, it is also one of the best places for job leads for non-service members. Most contractors advertise their intel jobs on this site. Many, of course, require a clearance but some do not. If you are not a service member you can't use the online job application service associated with this site. You can use the info gathered here, however, to go to the employer's site and apply there.
For best results enter the keywords "intelligence analyst" or "intelligence specialist" in Step 1 and scroll down through the "select state or location" drop-down menu until you get to "all United States" before you search. - Get Paid
- This is an interesting lens about ways to make some money or get free stuff while you are waiting for your clearance, graduation, whatever. The site contains links to everything from Google's new Mechanical Turk site (my favorite) to submitting photos to stock photo companies. Nothing you will make a career out of but you might pay a few bills with some of the ideas.
- ELance
- Elance is an interesting service. People who need everything from proofreading to graphic design to market analysis offer up jobs on ELance to the lowest bidder. It is sort of a jobs board for freelancers. You can also offer up your services for others to buy. Again, probably not a living in it but it probably beats being a waiter
