Semi-Intensive Learning To Drive Courses In Berkshire

Clearway Driver Training is an independent family-run driving school offering semi-intensive learning to drive courses from fully qualified driving instructors in Slough, Windsor, Maidenhead, Bracknell, Wokingham, Ascot, Twyford, Crowthorne, Sandhurst and the surrounding areas of Berkshire.

We offer top quality one-to-one learning to drive courses suitable for those learning to drive or wishing to improve their driving skills, in dual controlled, air conditioned, fully maintained, modern cars.

All Clearway Driver Training instructors are members of the Driving Instructors Association (DIA) and are fully qualified Driving Standards Agency Approved Driving Instructors.

Unlike many other driving schools, including some of the well-known, large, national schools of motoring, we do not use any trainee driving instructors to teach our customers.

Please note that we only offer driving tuition in MANUAL cars - we do not currently offer AUTOMATIC tuition.

Unlike many other driving schools who use partially trained and unqualified trainee driving instructors, Clearway Driver Training ONLY use FULLY QUALIFIED Department for Transport (Driving Standards Agency) Approved Driving Instructors, so you can be assured of top quality professional driving tuition.

Our friendly team of driving instructors will be happy to tailor an individual semi-intensive course for YOU, to suit your availability and your timescale!

It should be noted that our courses are SEMI-INTENSIVE i.e. driving lessons will be spread out over a period of mutually convenient days or weeks in the run-up to your driving test. Lesson duration will be for a maximum of 2 hours at any one time as our many years of experience have shown us that lessons of longer length tend to be far less effective for the learner due to tiredness and flagging concentration - learning to drive can be surprisingly tiring mentally & physically! We find people learn more effectively and get better value for their money when they're not exhausted! The maximum number of hours of tuition we will offer in any one day is four hours - two hours in the morning and two hours in the afternoon with a decent break to "re-charge your batteries" in between!

We do NOT offer "Pass In A Week / Fortnight" or so-called "Guaranteed Pass Courses" or courses with a "set number of hours".

The first two are sales-gimmicks - we don't go in for sales-gimmicks nor do we make unrealistic, empty promises! The latter type of course doesn't work either. Everyone is different when it comes to learning to drive and "one-size-fits-all" simply doesn't work with driving lessons. Making someone take say 20 hours of lessons when they only need 10 hours isn't the way we do things, nor do we agree with letting someone waste their time and money by taking their driving test after a set number of hours if they're not at the required standard.

Our semi-intensive courses are designed for INDIVIDUALS - we tailor a course for the needs of each person to fit in with the way they learn best, their availability for lessons and their timescale.

In East Berkshire there is currently (October 2009) an 8 to 10 week wait for Practical Test dates at the local DSA Test Centres. Test booking dates are determined by the Driving Standards Agency and we are not able to influence the availability of test dates.

NB - Driving schools & instructors are NOT able to supply pre-booked dates for driving tests and "fit people in on demand". The Driving Standards Agency only allow test dates to be booked for individuals, not "reserved" by 3rd parties - not even driving instructors!

Our driving instructors are popular and popular means busy! They're popular because they're very good at what they do. This means that if you want lots of hours of driving lessons at short notice, they're not likely to be able to accomodate your needs because of their existing committments to their other students. To avoid disappointment, please try to plan well ahead.

Prior to your course you will need to have an assessment lesson with your instructor so that they can assess your standard of driving and give you an estimate of the number of hours you are likely to need to get to test standard. They will then be able to plan a course that's both mutually convenient and that meets your needs and timescale!

Intensive Course Assessment

You'll need an assessment session with one of our instructors so that they can assess your standard of driving and give you an estimate of how many hours you as an individual will need to get to test standard. They can then plan a course tailor made for you to fit in with your timescale and your mutual availability

A 1 hour driving assessment costs £18.00

We DON'T offer "one-size-fits-all" courses with a set number of hours because everyone is an individual and has different needs!

How Long Will An Intensive Course Take? 

How fast is a quick pass course?

The timescale of an intensive course depends on several factors;

* How many hours of driving tuition you need

* The waiting lists for both the Theory and Practical tests

* The availability of our driving instructors

On the DirectGov website, the Driving Standards Agency (DSA) state; "Those who pass their driving test have had, on average, about 45 hours of professional training combined with 22 hours of private practice. Learners who prepare this way, with a combination of plenty of professional training and plenty of practice, do better in the test.".

In reality, everyone is different and learns at their own pace. The above information should only be used as a guide. Some people will need longer and some people need less.

It is NOT possible to book a Practical Test until the Theory Test has been passed. It normally takes 2 to 4 weeks to get an appointment to take the Theory Test and then having passed it, another 8-12 weeks after that for a Practical Test appointment - the whole process can take between 10 - 16 weeks (or longer if the Theory Test is failed).

"Pass In A Week" & "Guaranteed Pass" Courses

Sorry, but we don't do them!

There's no such thing as a "Guaranteed Pass" - if there was, no-one would ever fail their driving test!

"Pass In A Week" courses are unsuitable for the majority of people. Learning to drive is mentally & physically tiring & concentration lapses after about 2 hours.

Driving all day every day for a week is exhausting and counter-productive for most. Learner drivers need to consolidate & practice driving skills, so our lessons are spread out for that reason

How Much Do Intensive Courses Cost?

Our course prices cover driving tuition to Practical Driving Test standard from a fully qualified Driving Standards Agency Approved Driving Instructor (ADI).

Course prices do not include the fees for the Theory Test (£30.00) or the Practical Test (£56.50 weekdays/£67.00 evenings & weekends) which are payable directly to the Driving Standards Agency, not to your driving instructor.

Professional driving tuition is the most effective way to make sure that you are fully prepared to take your Practical Driving Test.

Clearway Driver Training only use fully qualified Driving Standards Agency Approved Driving Instructors. Unlike many other driving schools (including many of the big national driving schools), we do not use any trainee driving instructors to teach our customers. You can therefore be assured that all our instructors teach to a very high standard.
