We use these with my kids in our homeschool co-op. Great resource to help the kids remember what they've studied.
  • jimmyworldstar Feb 5, 2012 @ 4:05 pm | delete
This is like scrapbooking, these work well for traveling so you can write down what you saw and some facts about the locales.

These are really neat. Squidoo is such a cool place to learn how to do new things. I am pretty sure my 8 year old will like this idea as well!

I was a terrible student in school, it was so boring. I can't help but think with all the cool tools such as this lapbook that if I was a student in school now I would really achieve.
    Nice lens.

We did this for our state and it was so much fun! My son totally loved it!

Very cool lens. Giving the link to a relative who teaches elementary school, quite sure will be a hit. Thank you for sharing!

This is such a cool idea! I can even see this working for my daughter, at her very low level. Oh, Lori is right! I guess I'm using one and didn't know it, too, for keeping up to date with doctors and teachers. Yours are much prettier and more fun!
  • TheCureForYouthMinistry Sep 1, 2011 @ 2:25 pm | delete
    I am inspired! Well done.

I am a teacher/librarian for many years--I have great respect for Home School teachers--there is nothing harder than teaching one's own kids--but I absolutely love this cute idea!
  • wordstock Aug 31, 2011 @ 10:48 am | delete
New to homeschooling so I am absorbing all this new stuff. I like this idea. Congrats on the purple star, it's well deserved.
  • gottaloveit Aug 16, 2011 @ 9:54 am | delete
What a great idea. I use an interactive notebook (and didn't even realize it) to correspond information about my elderly mom with her caregivers. They leave me notes also so, in this fashion, we make sure we're all debriefed daily.

To Laura- I'm not sure where your comment went, it disappeared. I hope it comes back! I really appreciate your kind comment. :) And glad that you like the pages. As far as I know there is no way of following my lenses. They use to have a follow feature, but they discontinued it. Facebook is where I post most things that I have published, but like you said it's hard to follow there. I do have a lens that I try to keep up to date with my homeschool stuff, it's called Cheap Homeschooling. I get behind there sometimes, but most of them show up there eventually. lol!!! You could bookmark that page and it might help keep track of my pages. Thanks again! :)
  • Laura Aug 10, 2011 @ 11:43 pm | delete
I have enjoyed looking through your articles - absolutely wonderful! I can't wait to do more of this with my little one. I'me not familiar with Squidoo but am very interested after browsing a bit. Is there a way to follow you on here? I will definitely do so on FB but would like to receive email to alert me of new articles, because it's easy for me to miss the many, many posts that flow over my FB wall, lol! Thanks, again for all you're sharing and inspiring!
  • eclecticeducation Aug 11, 2011 @ 1:15 am | delete
Hi Laura! Thankfully, your comment finally showed up! lol!!! So ignore the part of my comment to you where I said I don't know where it went, but please read the rest that I wrote in a comment above this one. Thanks! :)

stopping in again--I really love these and reading this makes me want to homeschool my grandchildren even more! I don't think Jasmine would want to do one going into 9th grade? I could bring up the idea to her to make one for her nieces and nephews!

This is a great way to keep students interested in what they are studying by making it fun, but definitely helps a lot with organization too! love the lens :)

aesta1, you were not kidding when you said, "soon students notebooks in school will be these" I'm a 6th grade Social Studies Teacher and my student's notebooks ARE these! =o) Not only does it allow teachers/parents/admin. to see actual PROGRESS and COMPREHENSION, but students are more willing to participate when they CREATE instead of standard book work and tests. Especially English Language Learners (ELLS)!

This is a great take on lapbooks, but all on one place. I like it and this Squidoo lens has a lot of good information in it. You may be inspiring me to give this a try! I have done something like this using composition notebooks before...my son was so proud of his Creative Writing Notebook the year we kept all his work in the one book...he showed it to everyone. Thanks for the info. BTW: We love all the movies and shows you like, too, and fantasy fiction as well. Have you seen Merlin on Hulu? It is GREAT!
  • eclecticeducation Feb 21, 2011 @ 12:21 am | delete
I hope you give this a try. They are fun to make. :)

No, I have not seen Merlin. I'll have to check it out. Thanks.

Oh you make me want to go back to school! I would have loved interactive notebooks. but I can still use them when I am learning something new for my internet business, right?
  • marsha32 Aug 25, 2010 @ 6:42 pm | delete
I think Jasmine would love to give this a try! I need to read up some more.
If you put in coloring pages, for instance, wouldn't you cover the page somehow so that it could be colored over and over?
  • eclecticeducation Aug 25, 2010 @ 7:30 pm | delete
You could do that. I had not thought of that, but I like the idea.

What wonderful ideas you have and how cool that you choose to share your inspirations in Squidooland to the benefit of many. I'd say you have a definite teaching motive gift which you display beautifully. I believe I saw that you have 245 or 246 Squidoo lenses--impressive! You provide a wonderful resource for many and probably serve as a catalyst for the cretivity of others--that's a great ministry!
I must thank you for praying my way as I recovered from a bugger of a back injury--I'm still healing and doing much rejoicing as I'm returning to more normal activities--I've even gardened and picked rocks a bit in the last week, as well as lots of walking and smiling. Blessings on your head!

Returned to this great resource lens to thank you also for you positive thoughts for Shelly to recover from the back injury. She wasn't able to do much for herself for some time, just a good thing she has a loving husband. - Thanks my Squidoo friend!

Hello, I'm a teacher in a middle school in Europe. I've got no idea what a lapbook is, but I'm looking forward to trying it with my pupils. I think lapbooks could make great book reports,I promise to tell you if I finally can use them. Do you think it can be used with big kids? Thank you very much.
  • eclecticeducation Jul 3, 2010 @ 6:26 pm | delete
I'm so excited that you will be trying lapbooks!!! Yes, they will work for older children. You may want to check out this site for some free lapbooks: http://www.homeschoolhelperonline.com/lapbooks.htm There are several that would be suitable for middle school. If you don't find what you are looking for you may want to try Currclick (and just do a search on lapbooks). There is a link to Currclick if you scroll up just a bit or go to www.currclick.com I look forward to hearing how it goes!
  • JoyfulPamela Mar 5, 2010 @ 4:57 am | delete
My little guy does regular lapbooks, but the older kids have done something similar to this - sort of a combination lapbook / notebook type thing put into a binder. I had to giggle because I recognize so many of the wonderful resources you listed above. They are some of the best materials to create these types of books with!

Lynn, thanks for this! As I mentioned on your blog, I've started using these more with the 1st grader, but it's always great to be reminded of the many creative ways to learn, and your lens is very straightforward.
