Inspired Youth

Starting out as a young girl in the South American country of Columbia, Shakira knew what she wanted to do with her life at a very young age. She wanted to be a super star that would take the world by storm, she vowed this at an early age, and promised to use her power and influence in the world to help others. It was only a matter of time, and through hard work and dedication, she has managed to accomplish all of this. She has topped music charts all over the world with her hit songs like 'She Wolf' and 'Gypsy'. She has helped the orphans of her native country of Columbia with the resources she has gained through her success. In her time as a pop sensation, she has shared some interesting facts about her self while being under the spotlight.

Young Talent

Shakira, which means 'woman of grace' in Arabic says her father was a great inspiration and influence with his Lebanese heritage that inspired her middle eastern style of dance. "I think it is something in my DNA," She told and interviewer. "I've been belly-dancing since I was 4." She has shown that grace is one of many things she possess. She was signed to the Columbia division of Sony records at the very young age of 13 years. She had to work quite hard and convince many that she was capable and not a lost cause before gaining the opportunity with that deal. She had recorded and released her first album that same year. The album was titled 'Magia'. Two years later, she recorded and released her second album titled 'Peligro'.

Official Success

Later after achieving world wide recognition, she went on to write and record songs in English. One of her biggest hits 'Where Ever, When Ever' was inspired by her fiance', Antonio de la Rua, whom which she was involved with through a long distance relationship. The song gained her alot of recognition and many awards and honors. Her second official studio album 'Donde Estan Los Ladrones' was certified platinum 23 times world wide. It gained her two Grammy awards and nominations for many others.

Becoming an Icon

She is known to be quite intelligent. She has a recorded IQ of 140 , and is fluent in Spanish, English, Portuguese, and does quite well with Italian. She feels that she is somewhat of a representative of Hispanics from all over the world. She felt that being honored with the key to the city of Miami supported that notion. She has been known to be quite the artist outside of just music. She says that her favorite thing to paint is fired eggs. Odd, but quite different. For all that she has done for pop culture and music, and more importantly giving back to her nation of Columbia that she loves so much, the country had a metal statue of her, erected in her honor. It was placed in her home town of Barranquilla. She is grateful of the honor they placed upon her, and is also very grateful to have come from such an inspirational place that has made her the artist, and woman she is today.
