THE RACE
THE WHAT, THE WHERE AND THE WHY
What is the Intermontane?The Intermontane Plateau stretches the entire length of BC and is a portion of land that once was a part of Asia. 200 million years later, it is the home of some of the best mountain biking in the world.
The What:
The Intermontane Challenge will have two separate races within a race.
We will have teams of 2 riders and solo racers competing. This offers the solo racer a chance to race on their own with full support. By doing this, it makes the team division that much more competitive.
The Where:
The Intermontane Challenge will be staged in Kamloops with 5 loops that will start and finish in Kamloops. Can you see the benefit already? No more packing and unpacking everyday.
Having a city of 85,000 to support a race of this size is huge. The racer will have their choice of enjoying a nice espresso at a local cafe before each stage or going out on the town each night to hang out with the new people they will meet and enjoy a nice bottle of wine over a four course dinner!
There is nothing better than racing some awesome singletrack all day and pinning it that little bit extra for the finish line to enjoy the benefits of basing out of a city jammed full of places to hang out at after the stage....the life of the pro racer....now that's cool!.
You will not need a support team to get you set for each stage since we are located in one area for the entire race. This event is a marquee race and goes one step further in proving that Kamloops is the Tournament Capital of Canada.
The Why:
The Intermontane Challenge will offer the biggest cash purse because of the 2 separate races. Over $60,000 in cash prizes with additional merchandise given out to the racers.
The diverse terrain of the race will make for a unique race. The majority of the course will be built as a legal trail system and open to the public the remainder of the year. The spin off from the race will quickly turn the entire region into a mountain biker paradise and a 'must' for any type of rider with a sense of adventure. With plans for an extensive mountain bike trail system in the Kamloops area, the Intermontane Challenge will be the spring board to elevate the Interior of BC to the stature of 'World Class Mountain Bike Destination'. The terrain, the people and the infrastructure will set our region above all others.

The heart of our event based with the awesome singletrack trail network that Kamloops has grown famous for....sweet, flowing singletrack that goes on forever with the occasional super technical section thrown in to keep you honest.
The Intermontane Crew are riders too and love riding mountain bikes on singletrack and want to share what our backyard has to offer....some of the best riding anywhere....PERIOD!

Racing and riding bikes is in our blood. So is having a great time. When we ride our bikes we enjoy the experiences we have and people we meet along the way. We have developed the Intermontane Challenge as a way to share our passion, experience and vision for the sport of mountain biking. Our goal is to provide the most unique, fun and challenging mountain bike stage race on the planet here in the amazing interior region of British Columbia, Canada.
Our Mission
The Intermontane Challenge is guided by a philosophy of outstanding riding in an outstanding environment. Living true to that philosophy, the Challenge is being designed to satisfy competitors' thirst for adventure while showing the utmost respect and consideration for the natural state of the land. The use of a unique cloverleaf course design allows competitors to have a smaller carbon footprint than a point-to-point race - all racers start and finish each day from the same location which means no moving camping equipment from location-to-location and no spectators traveling to various destinations by car. In addition, the Intermontane Challenge will use facilities and infrastructure already created by the city. Race organizers will work with the local community to foster strong partnerships and develop a long-term, sustainable mountain bike program that will serve as a model for other municipalities. The race will challenge competitors from around the world while taking sustainable practices to a new level and as a result, it will enhance the credibility of its sponsorship partners and the Challenge itself.
