- Very Informative . Being away from the family , constant phone calls will really hurt one's pocket but since the birth of video calls , it helps a lot .....reminds me of the days where almost 1/3 of my salary will spent on international phone calls....

- Thanks for stopping by my lens - A Short Stay In The Blue Mountains - http://www.squidoo.com/Blue-Mountains I have been looking into international calling cards - my son is in Germany and is spending a fortune buying credit for his mobile. Do you know which is the best card for mobile to mobile from Germany?

- The cheapest way to call home from Germany is of course if you both have computer and a webcam. Using Skype (or MSN Live) the calls are free, unless you have to pay for an internet connection, but otherwise, it's best to look for a calling card.
If you try http://www.almostfreephonecalls.com and search on cards from Germany to the USA, that will show you a variety of cards and their rates.
The main things to consider are the (a) Increment period (smaller is better, 1 minute is better than 3), (b) regular charges (none is best), and the cost per minute.
If making long calls, a 3 minute increment is ok, and will usually have a lower per minute rate, but it does mean that if you call and only talk for 10 seconds, you get charged for 3 minutes.
However, since the rates for calling from Germany to the USA are pretty low these days, it doesn't make too much difference.
I hope you manage to find the right card and also save some money.

- Howdy! Great information on your lens. I rate you 5 *s and offer a recommendation that will help your readers. If you want rock bottom phone rates from your mobile, try using Zenofon. No calling cards, no PINs, no software downloads necessary. Plus, you get commissions for recommending your friends!

- I would probably use a calling card if I visited internationally. Cellphone connections just sound so bad it's worth it to get a card and not have to deal with the interruptions. Nice work.

- Very well done lens with great info. 5 stars, of course.
I just stepped back from a cell phone to Vonage since I don't use a phone that much. Even with unlimited minutes and free calls to five European countries including Ireland and the UK, it's $15 less than the 450 min. cell plan I had.

- Good stuff, this is a really useful lens. I don't have to make too many calls abroad, but there are a few occassions, I will be definitely looking into this and will be referring to your lens in the near future.

- This is a wonderful lens! I have friends all over the world. It's nice to know that I could call some of them without breaking the bank. Thanks for such thorough and well-written info. :-) (Be patient with the affiliate work. It DOES pay off, but I've found that it is slow, steady growth as opposed to "get rich quick". In fact, I wouldn't quit your day job for affiliate work until the money is definitely coming in. I'm only earning off 3 of my lenses - and really it's just a pittance. However, I can definitely see where I could multiply that greatly by building more lens. Perhaps a little less procrastination would be helpful for me!)

- Very interesting! I never get calls from my folks in the US... Maybe I should do some research to find a good card for calling France from the US. When I lived there, I called here with a special calling plan with AT&T.
Thank you for your comments on my lens! I worked really hard on it, and as you said, it's straight from the heart. Hope someone can find it helpful.
I've visited Dinan in Bretagne; my sister-in-law lives near there. Beautiful place. One of these days I'll make it to Mont-Saint-Michel and Normandy, too!
