Room 3

"JAE DESIGN Unique Attire Studio" started its official activity in August 1999 under its original name, however in 2002 the name was changed and remains as such at present.

Our studio deals with historical attire - its genesis and creative processing of old designs and tailor's techniques and aesthetic inspirations of old times, mainly the Middle Ages.

We use solely natural fabric available in the Polish market manufactured mainly in the valley of Jelenia Góra. That would be mainly linen, wools, cotton and silk in various types, sometimes hemps.

The clothes represent authors' original designs, made upon individual orders and with great care. They are characterised with chic and elegance, at the same time ensuring comfortable feeling.

The designs include historical, theatrical and stage costumes, wedding attire in a style of a selected epoch, Carnival and "fantasy" costumes and contemporary clothing with artistic dimension, frequently dyed manually, painted, embroidered and appliquéd.

They possess the certificates of National Artistic and Ethnographic Committee in Wroclaw and of "Foundation Cepelia - Polish Art and Craftsmanship" in Warsaw.

Jones Instruments

Row I Stand 4

I have been making and developing bagpipes for over ten years and have a workshop where I live in Staffordshire. The inspiration for my pipes comes from historical sources and an understanding of acoustics. I have developed a range of bagpipes that can be confidently used for modern music, session playing as well as early music and historical re-enactment.

All the woods used are from sustainable sources with an emphasis on traditional north European hardwoods. All the reeds are plastics making the chanter and drones stable and reliable, requiring minimal maintenance.

I make a range of bagpipes that are suitable for the experienced player and the beginner. They are available as either bellows or mouth blown sets and can be fitted to your existing bellows if required.

At the end we would like to underline one more thing. We really enjoy the production of these replicas and that is not good only for us - it is good also for you - for our customers

The Historical Harpist

Row K Stand 4

Sarah Deere-Jones is a classically trained harpist from the Royal Academy of music who has always been fascinated by history, and happily her instrument is one of the most ancient instruments in existence, its north African origins going back to thousands of years BC. Her interest in history lead to her exploring the eras above musically, and when performing at Arts centres, concert venues and historic sites across the UK, she also includes stories, readings and anecdotes about the lives and times of the musicians themselves, all in her hand made, authentic costumes.

Sarah presents illustrated lectures on the harp using all three instruments, or specialises in concert performances in one period along with her husband Phil who also plays appropriate instruments. She also takes part in re-enacting and historical events and gives workshops for beginners at events bringing small harps along for the public to try.

Sarah has also recorded several CDs of harp music from the above periods, and has published sheet music for student harpists and other musicians. For anyone wanting to get started playing the harp, she also runs weekend courses from her home in Cornwall for complete beginners, and gives on-line harp lessons for those wanting to continue learning in their own homes.

Time Travellers.co.uk

Row I Stand 5

Jim trained as a science teacher and now lectures in Land and Environment but after 15 years of reenactment has decided to go professional!

As well as portraying characters he is an accomplished Weapon Trainer- having taught a considerable number of people use of swords, knives and polearms as master at arms to a number of groups over the years.

Additionally he prepares and runs pyrotechnics to simulate period battlefield effects.

After several years taking part solely in Early Medieval events and displays (800-1066) he started also doing High Medieval (14-15th Century) then English Civil War before adding 18th Century criminals and law enforcers to his repertoire.

He believes firmly that you have to get into the mindset of the period to understand the society of any time.

In character he can explain daily life- motivations and thoughts of each character as well as answering questions in character. There is always a chance to ask questions out of character at the end too!

For later periods he can bring and demonstrate a range of replica firearms- from pistols and blunderbuss to working cannon.

Overnight.
Unfortunately it is not possible for anyone to sleep on the site but the area is full of Hotels, B&Bs and campsites. Please look for accomodation suggestions on the Bruntingthorpe website.

There are many hotels and B&B's locally, or if you prefer the great outdoors, Eddie & Jackie, who are the owners of a camp-site at Victoria Farm have agreed to offer space at their campsite which is 10 minutes drive away, and close to a Pub. Plots are available for tents, vehicles, and caravans, some with Electricity. There are also some rooms to rent. 2 Double & 3 Twin Rooms either with or without breakfast, but campers can use the Showers & Toilets, on the site. Please contact them on 01455 208270, or try Victoria Farm

If you prefer hotels, we have a deal with the Greyhound Inn at Lutterworth for discounted rates, just mention the ILHF. Contact is 01455 553307, or try www.greyhoundinn.co.uk

Public Liability Insurance. You will need to have your own Insurance and supply a valid copy when you book in. Please bring a copy to the show or your Market Traders Federation Membership Card if you belong to the Historical Market trader's scheme. If you currently have none, we can give you the details of the show Insurer (John Hughes) throughTowergate Risk Solutions, or the National Federation of Market Traders, who can both provide Public Liability Insurance at a reasonable cost.

Costume. Please ensure you understand that this is a Period Historical Market environment, and you will be expected to Trade products in keeping with the nature of this Event. We expect all traders to be in Period costume, whilst the Exhibition is open to public. It adds immeasurably to the overall spectacle of the event.

Products for sale. We are trying to maintain a multi-period balance of goods for sale for the benefit of all traders and customers. ALL traders will be asked for a detailed product list and required to sell only products which have been mutually agreed. Please work with us to enable a varied product range at the show.

Questions. Pike And Shot Events Limited are happy to answer general queries by E-Mail or telephone.
