International Nurses Day is celebrated around the world every May 12, the anniversary of Florence Nightingale's birth.

The 2008 International Nurses Day theme for 2008 is: Delivering Quality, Serving Communities : Nurses Leading Primary Health Care.

The world population faces many challenges in the coming years, especially concerning health and well being. The depletion of natural resources, environmental degradation, population growth, aging populations, and more require a prepared health care workforce. International Nurses Day is a day set aside on May 12 of each year to pay respects to the many women and men who have chosen to commit their lives to promote the well being of others.
