Internet advertising marketing and email is pure hard work....rewarding...but hard work!

The contents of this Lens will hopefully give you some tips and tricks that i myself have learned and found useful.....i would like to share them with you now..

How to get your email opened

The importance of subject lines

Fact: Most People sort and delete without even reading the contents of an email.

What?....Is that true?....Yes, I'm afraid email recipients are just plain mean.

But hey, we have to take some responsibility....i mean if the subject line doesn't sing out, "OPEN ME", your email campaign will have the same fate of a dead gold fish...(Important - if your computer is deleting files into your toilet please call the IT department now!!!)

People are time poor. We've got a million things to do in a day already. The last thing they want is to sift through hundreds of emails, right?.

So, we decide who stays and who goes by - "the subject line"...."the headline"....just like the ones you read on the front of women's magazines.

"Posh Spice plastic surgery disaster - Michael Jackson wants his nose back" - These headlines are beautifully targeted and addictive to their demographic - women.

And don't we get sucked in by them.....come on...time to confess ladies...how often do you buy these magazines or read them at the supermarket?......I've even seen men reading them!!...Why, for the most part, it's the catchy headline that draws us in....for the guys...well, most likely the pictures.

Think of your email subject line like a headline.

We need to write something that ensures the recipient will open it.

Let's say you have own a bottle shop and you are sending out an email campaign with a voucher or a discount code for Corona - which is on special for $46 a box...normally $55.

Your subject line could read "Corona $46 - save $9"

Says it all right? You could even hyper link your subject line. That'll save time for the reader, they don't even have to open your email, just click the subject line and let your landing page do all the work for you.

Alternatively, you could go with what's called a blind subject line. A blind subject line doesn't tell the whole story. It is designed to leave your reader curious.

Using Corona as an example again, a blind subject line could go something like this:

"Corona's come down again"

You could even personalize a blind subject line if you want....like this "Jeff - Corona's come down again - cheers Mike"

You've said "corona's come down again", but you haven't told the reader how much the corona has come down or how much they'll pay for it...they'll have to open your email to find out the price of Corona?

Always remember to keep the outcome you want in the back of your mind whenever you're composing an email. The Blind subject line is a great technique to use because it teases the reader about what's inside the email.

Before you start to write your award winning, traffic driving, sales doubling subject line, there are some words you should stay away from:

Words like -

Discount
Specials
Free
Sex
Cheap

You'll notice in the subject line examples we created for corona, we used the phrase "Corona has come down" instead of "Corona is cheap again"....it means the same but the spam filters will like the first phrase better. We need to stay away from these types of words.

Well, that's it for this week. Stay tuned for more Tips and Tricks coming soon....in the mean time just Remember, Keep it simple...just like we did with the bottle shop example. Good luck!

What should i write in my Email copy - A few more e-marketing tips

So there you sit, starring at a blank computer screen, trying to work out what you're going to write in your email....after half an hour you simply give up or delegate the job off to someone else in the office. Both can greatly affect your email getting read.
For the purpose of this Lens I'm going to give you some valuable pointers, which will help you fill up all the white space inside your email body....I'll show you how you can write content that will leave the reader with no choice but to act upon your marketing message and click through to your landing page...and buy buy buy!

The first thing we need to keep in mind is "write like you talk".

If your goal is to get someone to open your email and click through to a landing or squeeze page , you must write that instruction in your email like you would say it if you were at dinner with your recipient or out having a drink with them.

Keep the feel of your email light....you don't want to come across all salesman like in an email...you'll just end up deleted.

Professional copy writers use the AIDA system to write their winning ad campaigns.

Attention
Interest
Desire
Action

A great way to write an email using the AIDA system is lay it out on the page like this

Attention - Corona $46 - save $4

Interest - "How often can you get premium beer for under $50?"

Desire - "Corona is a cool beer - everybody loves corona - you look cool drinking it"

Action - We've put a voucher over here for you to claim your discounted Corona...etc

Here are some more simple points to think about when constructing your email:

· When setting out to write your email it's important to always keep your call to action in the back of your mind, and by "call to action" I mean the end result, what you want to the reader to do.

· Stay conversational, greet the reader like you would a friend and remember to write your email like you're writing to one person only.

· Get to the point - and get their fast. Don't ramble or go off in a tangent.

· Give people a reason to care about your product but don't write any personal information. Nobody really cares about how hard you are working or what you did on the weekend. When you're in somebody's inbox you're in their personal space. All they care about is them-selves, what is in it for them.

· You must stay super relevant. If you're squeeze page is promoting cheap corona - don't talk about wine or spirits in your email. Your mission is to get the reader to click thru and read the relevant information and buy your product. Don't stray away from that goal.

· Make sure you keep your copy inside the emails to short 2-3 line paragraphs. Anything else will look like to much hard work for the reader and you will end up deleted.Email recipients like to skim..not read!

· And finally, don't hold back at the end of the email. If your call to action is to get the reader to click thru, tell them that's what they have to do. Be positive and assertive.

I hope this helps?
