The many uses of internet classified advertising

Pew Internet & American Life Research project recently published the results of an April, 2009 which revealed that "on any given day about a  tenth of internet users (9%) visit online classified sites". Obviously this is fascinating and important data for online and offline businesses alike.

While it's been unfortunate that many marketers and other people have abused the wonderful architecture of many of the classified advertising sites, it still remains true that if they are used with integrity and respect for the classified site owners they can be a major source of revenue for all sorts of business owners.

Affiliate use of online classified advertising sites

How to use online classified advertising sites respectfully as an affiliate

When reviewing a classified advertising site as an affiliate the first thing you want to determine is whether or not the site is affiliate friendly. For example, the site USFreeAds has been known to be so affiliate friendly and rank so well in Google that courses such as this beginners affiliate marketing system have become quite popular with people who want to learn a relatively simple affiliate marketing strategy.

In fact many online marketers recommend that beginners start with affiliate marketing via articles while completely overlooking the potentially simpler message of affiliate product promotion via classified ads.

Online Classified Advertising factors to consider when placing ads

Here are a few of the more important factors to consider when placing classified advertisements online. Of course your own analysis, tracking and research should compliment the suggestions given here.
  • How long will your advertisement run based on the price you pay and type of advertisement run? Of course affiliate and pure online marketers ideally will want to look for non-expiring advertisements, but that should only be one of the factors that you base ad placement decisions on.
  • What is the page rank of the classified advertisement your advertisement will sit on. This will be most important if you are trying to get your advertisements listed high in the organic search results. And depending on the niche your are targeting you may also want to check out the domain age and whether or not the classified ad site you are considering is an authority site or not.
  • How much traffic does the internet classified advertising site you're considering get? Too often online marketers overlook the internal traffic of sites and the fact that direct sales and leads can come from that traffic. They live in a world obsessed with organic search and rankings and pay per click traffic and can often neglect amazing and easy sources of traffic.
  • What is the classified ad's site policy on advertising across multiple states. Some classified adverting sites have a strict policy against running the same ad across multiple states whereas other classified advertising sites promote that sort of advertising as a benefit of their site.

You will also want to check what they're policy is on promoting the same product with multiple advertisements, not only to comply with their terms of service, but also to be respectful of the site owner.
