Internet marketing and online business building

Common sense internet marketing

This lens is for one thing only, to show you what to do and maybe even more what not to do to start and successfully run an online business. Do not spend another dime on ebooks until you hear or read what I have to say.

The essentials for every internet marketer

This will be on going and added to over the next couple of days.

Starting on in the game of internet marketing is not too much fun.

You have thousands of websites fighting for your attention and all of them sound good to someone who is brand new.

That is part of the reason I spent several thousand dollars in stuff and had no business and ended up giving up for a few years.

I will stay away from the absolute basics right now. but one they you must have is some type of autoresponder and you should look no further than

www.getresponse.com

It is the best easiest to use auto responder out
there.

You need an autoreponder to collect email addresses from your site. These are people who have given you permission to send them some type of email whether it is a newsletter or some other information that they signed up for.

Make sure you are building trust by not just marketing the latest gimmick, but giving them the quality information that you told them they would receive from you.

Don't believe all the hype about getting traffic.

Give the people want they want!

When it comes to building your website and making some money from it, you need to ask yourself one thing,

Does my site improve my visitors lives in some way?

If the answer is no then you may need to think differently about your business.

People search the internet for answers to questions it can be simple, like how train a new puppy to the serious how to cope with a certain disease.

The topic does not matter, what matters is that you serve up content that people need to make something in their lives better.

This will get you better rankings in the search engines, it will increase people linking to you or telling people about your site.

People will subscribe to your newsletter or blog, because they know that that you will give them quality information to solve some problem in their lives.

My favorite blog is www.stevepavlina.com now I do not agree with every thing he says but he writes his blog to help people improve themselves.

He says he has never written for a search engine just people and he has been rewarded nicely.

So as I get my blog and website up and running, I am aiming for giving content that will help people start, run and grow an internet business.

We want people to come back to our websites not take one look at them and say all this person is trying to do is make a quick that is not what this is all about.

I want to make a decent income from my efforts but I want to help people even more.

A little more about this lens.

Now that I finally have figured out what the hell I am doing...I think

I never expected to be doing a website, blog or lens about internet marketing.

My first website was a fitness and weight loss website and ezine that was several years ago. I had built pretty good size email list, around 500 people in only a couple of months.

Then I started getting too involved in reading inernet marketing articles and buying ebooks, programs and software that I did not need, learn how to use or was simple crap.

When all was said and done I had spent nearly 3 thousand dollars on a credit card wasted thousands of hours doing nothing that built a business, well not mine anyway, I made other people money.

I was mad, disillusioned and broke, I fell for every well written sales page I found, The ebooks I bought may have had no useful info but they sure knew how to write great sales copy.

I closed down my website and blog(which were still very new)and just concentrated on my job and my life.

I never really gave up entirely on my dream of running a money making website even if I only manage to carve out a small niche for myself and only make enough to pay my mortgage that is fine with me. My goal is 3,000 dollars a month so I am not trying to get rich.

Over the next few years, I read a lot about internet business and marketing and writing copy and even bought a few info products that were reasonable priced and I felt that were written by people who were trying to help people.

I even tried a few things here and there just to see what worked and what did not.

I was still mad that so many of the websites out there for internet marketing really were over priced for what the info the gave people. Some of the people who I felt screwed me were still around bigger than ever, and there was a lot of new ones too.

It seemed every newsletter I signed up for was ads for other product who wanted to me to sign p for another newsletter so I would not forget about them. I now subscribe to 3 newsletters that I read.

One day I decided maybe I should start an internet marketing website. I know as much as some of the people out there less than others of course.

I want to help and teach others on who to go to to purchase quality products that they really need to have successful website.

Getting traffic to stay once you get it

How do I get traffic to my website, blog or lens? That is the question all of us ask as we start trying to build a website and maybe make a little money from it.

It is a very important question to ask. With out traffic no website will do anything but just sit there.

I have read articles already on Squidoo about how to get traffic.

I will talk about my own views on traffic generation some other time, Tomorrow is my plan. Today I would like to talk about getting your traffic to stay around or even better come back.

It is not really all that hard to get traffic. You can join traffic exchanges where you show pop up on your site and they show your site as a pop up on their site.

You can "pay per click" or the new thing coming "pay per action".

But I said I would give you my views on traffic generation some other time.

Once you get the people to come to your site, using what ever means you use, the trick is getting them to stay.

You only have a few seconds a minute at the most get get your new visitor to stick around or at least come back.

First keep you site simple and obvious what the point of your site is, by the title headings and subheadings. Do not make anyone guess what your site is all about, they will not be back.

Second, keep in mind the internet is a faceless arena so the visitor does not know you, from the the next site who is running some kind of scam or worthless adsense site.
So make sure you have some quality orginal content that the visitor can find quickly.

Third, get an auto-responder account and use it, have a newsletter or a e-course and make sure you write your own ebook that is filled with high quality information that you are giving away when they sign up. You have to build trust with the person.

Fourth, once they sign up for your newsletter and they are coming back to read your blog do not just advertise.

People on the internet are looking for information, many times free information. You have to give them what they want.

If you sell a course or ebook of course plug it at least a couple of times in your emails but do it after your subscriber has already learned something that can improve their life.

Be careful of buying articles that you have the rights to, use your voice, you know a lot about your topic or you would not be building a website on it, so take a little extra time and write your own articles and post them and write your own ebooks.

More on all this latter.

Once again I say welcome to my first try with something like this, I used to the more static nature of websites.
