A List of Common Internet Slang

Ever been in a moment while on the Internet where you saw abbreviations and language that made absolutely no sense whatsoever? We've all been there.

Here's a list of the most common Internet slang that is used by today's generation, with the more 'explicit' ones left out. I hope I got them all, but if you have any to add please leave me a comment and I'll add it to the list!

1337 - Derived from the word leet which is slang for the word elite.

2 - Used to replace the word 'to' or 'too'

AFAIK - As far as I know

AFK - Away from keyboard

ASAP - As soon as possible

ASL - Age/sex/location

ATEOTD - At The End of the Day

ATM - At the moment

AWOL - Absent Without (Official) Leave

B

BBIAB - Be back in a bit

BBQ - Barbecue. Not Internet slang itself, and it is often combined with other abbreviations.

BBL/BBS - Be back later / soon

BFF - Best Friends Forever

blog - Also known as web log or an online journal

bot - Robot. Any type of automated software in chat rooms

BRB - Be right back

BSOD - Blue Screen of Death (usually associated with Microsoft Windows systems)

BTDT - Been there done that

BTW - By the way

CMIIW - Correct me if I'm wrong

CU - See you (later)

CYA - See ya

DOA - Dead on arrival. Refers to hardware that is broken (dead) upon delivery.

E2EG - Ear To Ear Grin

ETA - Estimated time of arrival

FAQ - Frequently Asked Question(s)

flamer - Someone who makes inflammatory, abusive or directly offensive comments. Similar to, but not quite the same as an Internet troll

FTL - For the loss. Typically said when something undesirable happens. Ex. "Broken computers FTL."

FTW - For the win. The opposite of FTL.

HTML - Hypertext markup language. A computer programming language used in development of web sites.

    I was aware of just a few of such abbreviations but now I have found out many more thanks to your lens! It is an interesting information source for me and I am going to same time by using a lot of them during online chatting!
