It wasn't so long ago that something called Facebook was making waves as the latest and greatest social networking site. You shared stories, videos, pictures. Socializing. It was all about making friends and building relationships.

Well, that was a few short years ago and things have really taken off for Facebook since then. They have grown in leaps and bounds and people everywhere use Facebook for everything from finding "social" friends to networking for their business. It has pretty much exploded onto to the scene and doesn't show any signs of slowing down.

I've used Facebook and still do for a multitude of reasons but personally, I finid it a little cumbersome and at times, (baby boomer talking here) overwhelming.

If I want to talk with someone or share a message, it seems I have to navigate through a lot of information to get where I want to go. I guess I am from the school of KISS - Keep it Simple Stupid. The simpler something is to use, the better the chance I will use it and continue to use it.

Hence...along came Twitter. What is a Twitter? A Twitter is a short, one or two sentence phrase describing what you are doing at the moment. For more on what Twitter actually is and how to use it see Twittering for Success in Network Marketing.

But the main purpose of this lens is to share WHY you need to be using Twitter now in your Networking efforts.

You see, currently there are approximately 6 million users of Twitter. Six million may sound like a lot but compared to Facebook and YouTube, it hasn't even touched the surface. So the rumblings are really just beginning and they are getting louder and louder every day.

People are discovering this "twittering" tool every day and as more and more people come on board, more and more people will begin to form relationships on the site. So if you are already positioned and established as a "Twitterer", then you have a leg up on the competition as they say.

People crave knowledge and if you have been twittering for a while and have a nice amount of followers who respect you and with whom you have built solid relationships; then you can help them when they come on board to follow the rules of social networking and learn how to twitter properly and successfully.

There are many rules of etiquette to follow on any social networking sites but the bottom line is no one and I mean NO ONE wants spammers. Don't pitch your goods and wares with your very first "tweet".

Hopefully, by now you have learned a little bit about the proper way to attract people to you and you have all but thrown away the old ways of networking. But if you haven't yet, you need to understand that the world has changed and so has the way we market ourselves and/or our products.

Education is key and there is really no better time than now to start.
