Internet Churches: Online Christian Worship Via Web Technology

Ranked #7,025 in Culture & Society, #143,115 overall

I can remember when the very first "cyber church" or "internet church" hit the grapevine on campus at my seminary. Everyone was absolutely shocked that anyone would be interested in being part of an online church. It's one thing to offer audio downloads of sermons for the shut-ins and those who missed last week's service, but we just couldn't imagine people opting for an online spiritual experience instead of attending a "real" church.

Well, cyberspace is now packed with churches offering live webcasts of their worship services and Bible studies, not to mention the variety of virtual churches where you can actually get baptized online, go for counseling, fellowship with other virtual members, and study the Bible interactively.

Welcome to the world of internet church!

Please rate this site (if you are a fellow lensmaster) and leave your feedback/suggestions/ideas below.

If you know of other websites, particularly of virtual churches or cyber churches, please leave a comment here or send me an e-mail. It would also be interesting to hear testimonials from those who derive most of their spiritual teaching from the internet. I would love to improve this site for everyone on the net.

There is an awesome church called Generation Empowered International Church...they have an online campus. I can use facebook, twitter, and email to receive the word but Pastor Garrett also send out video streams as well of his messages. I log on at www.generationempowered.org...I don't feel accepted at a regular church, but Pastoer Garret is an awesome teacher, so even while i am at home I can still get encouragement through the word!

We've created an online church that folks can worship, fellowship and be a part of through the internet. It is a real church, online. www.accessbiblechurchonline.org We have a new worship service every Sunday at 5 PM eastern and available all week. We have family members and friends who are not able to go to church related to disability issues. Others have to work. But what's cool, were on 24/7. It is moving beyond walls!

Hi, the last I heard, Patricia King was developing an internet church. I haven't joined any of them but I find it interesting how media has spread news of the Lakeland Revival.

There are a lot of reasons why people leave churches. Sometimes an internet church can feel safer for someone who has been hurt in regular church.
