Why listen to me about Internet Marketing?

Good question!

As a filmmaker, I have been involved with Internet Marketing since 1996. I have attended a variety of workshops and bought thousands of dollars worth of marketing products from some of the biggest names in direct marketing and internet marketing: Dan Kennedy, John Reese, Yanik Silver and Corey Rudl.

Over the past 11 years, I became a serious student of direct marketing and how it applies to the film business, and I have used that marketing knowledge to successfully promote my services, workshops, ezines and websites.

For example: in 2006 I presented my first international "Art and Craft of the Director" 3 day workshop in Vancouver, Canada. 17 filmmakers registered for this event from as far away as South Africa and Mexico.

And my advertising budget? All I spent was $20.00 for some flyers! The rest of my promotion and advertising was done using the Internet - from email lists to free sites like Craiglist.

Here's another example: by understanding up-to-date internet marketing techniques, (SEO, keyword ranking, email marketing etc.) you can start to get your website or blog ranked high in the search engines. And by the way, if your website is not mentioned on the first three pages of any search engine, the chances of it being found by anyone is very small.

Try this. Type in "film directing" (in quotation marks) into Google. As of this date (August 7, 2007) a page on my website www.actioncutprint.com was ranked #5 out of 205,000 web pages for those two words. Click Here to see image capture of this Google page.

Type in "filmmaking workshops" (in quotation marks) and another website of mine www.filmmakingworkshops.com is ranked #4 out of 31,500 web pages for those words. Click Here to see image capture of this Google page.

The point I am making is this - by understanding the techniques of direct marketing and knowing how to apply them to your internet marketing promotions, you will have a better chance than 90% of the other filmmakers out there trying to promote their services and films on the Internet.

I hope these few examples of how I use Direct Marketing techniques to successfully promote myself on the Internet will engage your creative juices to find out more on how you can find work, market your services and promote your films using the Internet.

The Multi-Layered Mindset of Web 2.0 Marketing

The Multi-Layered Mindset of Web 2.0 Marketing is a free ebook by Tiffany Dow that describes how the concept of Web 2.0 evolved and why you need to understand it in order to do business on the web today.

"Web 2.0 is not a buzzword or mysterious new advertising tactic - it's about raising your strategic planning to a level that matches the evolution of the World Wide Web." Tiffany Dow

What is Web 2.0?

It's basically about people, communities, consumer interaction and opinions

Web 2.0 was popularized by O'Reilly Media at the first Web 2.0 conference in 2004. Basically, Web 2.0 refers to the perceived second generation of web-based communities and hosted services - such as social-networking sites (My Space, Facebook, Squidoo) and wikis (Wikpedia) which aim to facilitate collaboration and sharing between users.

Web 2.0 is the term used for the next generation of online community building where visitors to a website interact with the webmasters of that sites. It allows these visitors to add content and interact with other users of the website.

In short, it's all about interactivity - about the involvement of the website visitor with the creator of the website.

What is Social Networking?

Social Networking focuses on the building of online social networks for communities of people who share interests and activities, or who are interested in exploring the interests and activities of others.

Most social network services are primarily web based and provide a collection of various ways for users to interact: such as chat, messaging, email, video, voice chat, file sharing, blogging and discussion groups.

What is Squidoo?

Squidoo is one of the most popular sites on the internet for people who want to build a page about their passions. It's part wikipedeia, part social site and part blog and it brings the best of Web 2.0 and Social Networking together in one place.

Squidoo is a network of user-generated "lenses" which are single pages that highlight one person's point of view, recommendations or expertise. Lenses can be about anything: ideas, people, places, business, hobbies, sports, products, services, philosophy or politics. With Squidoo, anyone can make a lens and have exposure on the Internet.
