How to Become an Internet Model

When I was a teenager all I wanted to do was Model like they did on TV. I knew I would never be tall enough to be a run way Model (I am 5'4") or ever had a chance to possibly break into Commercial Modeling, so I did the next best thing, I got Modeling Jobs via the Internet. (Photo Credit: Stan Orlob and Stephanie Stout 1998)

I built a website around my Modeling and came up with my own stage name. I really wanted to experience being a Model.

With this Squidoo what I would like to do is inform women, young adults on becoming an Internet Model. Tips and Advice from my own experience. So enjoy! :)

Wikipedia Definition of Internet Modeling

URL: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Internet_modeling

The Internet has changed the face of the modeling industry significantly by increasing accessibility. Aspiring models are drawn to online modeling sites, where they have an opportunity to post biographies and photos in hopes of being discovered by a top modeling agency, as well as increase their recognition as artists.

By definition modeling is a profession that is based on intermediates to connect the actual talents with the relative job projects. Although the fact that an actual face-to-face evaluation is needed to determine if the candidates are right for the job, it was soon realized that Internet could help in minimizing part of the costs incurred during the castings. Most of today's modeling agencies use their own website to demonstrate their models to their clients, this has led to even larger third party modeling websites that have accumulated large database of talent profiles.

Internet modeling sites boast benefits like the ability to be "discovered" through self-marketing, without actually visiting the agencies or going to conventions.

Drawbacks of these sites are the possibility of scams and exploitation. Also, most major modeling agencies say they do not search online for talent since they have hundreds of people knocking on their door every day.

Cindy Margolis - The VERY First Internet SuperModel

Most Downloaded Woman on the Internet!

Margolis emerged as a star in the early days of the Internet. She was named Yahoo! Internet Life magazine's "Queen of the Internet" from 1996-1999. She also found her way into the 2000 Guinness Book of World Records as a result of being the "most downloaded" person in 1999 - a statistic that has no way of being accurately measured.[citation needed] At the age of 34, the peak of her popularity, Margolis was downloaded 70,000 times in a span of 24 hours.

On December 5, 2000, Danni Ashe beat Margolis' record. Guinness World Records awarded Danni Ashe the title "Most downloaded woman on the Internet" when they confirmed Danni's image had been downloaded over a billion times. Danni Ashe was the first person in history to officially reach this milestone. from Wikipedia

Internet Modeling Tips

1) First what you will want to do is take a couple of recent pictures of yourself with a digital camera or cell phone if you have to. You would want to take a head shot, 3/4 Shot and a full length body shot.

2) Then you want to sign up for a couple of networking modeling sites like ModelMayhem and/or OneModelPlace .

*If you would like to get as much exposure as possible then join as many Modeling sites as you can.

3) You don't have to but you could also have your own website up with your stats, age, modeling experience, portfolio page set up at a free site but because you will have signed up for a site above, it won't really be necessary till you get more experience.

*This day and age I recommend a Blog. I will be moving my previous site to a Blog.

*If you do decide to get up seriously then I also recommend you obtain a domain name.

4) You will then get asked to do test shoots - which basically build the Portfolio for yourself and the photographer by testing different kinds of shots. Test Shoots are FREE material for your Portfolio. Some may ask for a small fee, depending on the photographer. Most likely this day and age the photographer will give you a disk with all your pictures on it.

*Make sure the photographers understand what type of photos you are willing to take before hand so there is no misunderstanding. The shot I always did was Fashion, Casual and Swimsuit.

*Make sure to bring make-up, clothing, hair styling products and a robe for changing. You will be doing your own make-up and hair unless you and the photographer agree otherwise.

*Plan at least 1-5 hours for a photo or test shoot.

5) Whenever you meet up with a photographer make sure you bring a friend or family member..I have had a couple of instances where I was almost caught in danger but because there was someone with me, I was okay.
