Invasion of the Body Snatchers (1978)

When I seen the first remake of Invasion of the Body Snatchers (1978), staring Donald Sutherland and Brooke Adams, I couldn't help but stay on the edge of my seat.

This is a masterpiece of director Philip Kaufman and crafted by John Carpenter. Every part of this suspenseful science-fiction drama played on the emotions of its main characters, which deepen when co-workers and friends began to act strangely and non-emotional.

It all started when biologist Elizabeth Driscoll (Brooke Adams) brings a hybrid flowering pod home with her one night. Thinking it was a new type of flowering plant. She soon notices changes in her live-in boyfriend, Geoffrey (Art Hindle). He becomes cold and distant and not quite there. She turns to her friend Matthew Bennell (Donald Sutherland), a colleague at the Department of Public Health. But he is convince that she should seek help from his friend Dr. Kibner (Leonard Nimoy), a pop psychologist who argues that the problem is all in Elizabeth's head.

Soon Matthew and Elizabeth notice that people all over the city were indifferent.

The 1978 remake of Invasion of the Body Snatchers is better than the original movie set back in 1956. I usually hate remakes, but this is a thriller that keeps you on your seats. I remember watching this and saying to myself and to the characters on the screen, "Don't fall asleep!"

John Carpenter has crafted this movie into a masterpiece that no other remake of it surpasses.

Go ahead, disagree. I dare you.

Invasion of the Body Snatchers is the best movie ever.

The 1978 version is as far as I'm Concern.

Wrong! It's the worst!

I have seen these flowers all over. They are growing like parasites on other plants. All of a sudden. Where are they coming from?

I keep seeing these people, all recognizing each other. Something is passing between them all, some secret. It's a conspiracy, I know it.

They do! That is why I don't show emotion.

We have brought many plants home. I do feel different.

No! But I'm pointing my finger right at you.

Invasion of the Body Snatchers [1978]

I have seen the original and the remakes. This is my favorite of all the Body Snatcher movies. The other remakes are worth seeing as well.

Invasion of the Body Snatchers (1956)

Sci-fi movies of the 1950s were either good or extremely corny. When I seen the 1978 movie, I didn't know at the time that it was a remake. Not until I seen this one afterwards on TV. The original Invasion of the Body Snatchers (1959) is superbly acted and convincing movie.

Invasion of the Body Snatchers - Official Trailer [1956]

Dr Miles Bennell returns his small town practice to find several of his patients suffering the paranoid delusion that their friends or relatives are impostors. He is initially skeptical, especially when the alleged dopplegängers are able to answer detailed questions about their victim's lives, but he is eventually persuaded that something odd has happened and determines to find out what is causing this phenomenon. This film can be seen as a paranoid 1950s warning against those Damn Commies ...

More Invasion

I get tired of seeing one remake after another. But these movies are better than the expected remakes. The Strange Invaders (1983 parody), is made on cheap film. It was OK to watch one time. But that is my opinion.

Invasion of the Avatar Snatchers

Megan Casey Has Clones

2009 is the year that Squidoo had evolved with many changes. But with changes comes strange sightings. The first sighting showed up on August 9, 2009. Many avatars were replaced with pictures of Megan Casey, Editor in Chief.

When I went into my lenses and other works from lensmasters, their avatars were snatched and cloned to look like Megan. Are there aliens among us? Are there Megan Casey pod people?

Now as I am writing this my avatar half of the time is not Megan but an avatar of a pipe that says, "This is not a Megan." Where did that one come from? Normally, I am a spider with a human head.

Once all the bugs are worked out with Squidoo our avatars should change back to normal. Or will we be forever not quite there.
