St Lucia

Described as one of the four most beautiful islands in the world, St Lucia is a tropical haven located with Barbados to the east, Martinique to the north and the Grenadines to the south.   The islands history is dominated by the constant exchange in rule by the British and the French, twenty seven times changing hands until St Lucia became independent, but based its government and legal system on the English.  In 1842 English became the islands official language but St Lucia retains a strong French heritage with many of the villages having French names.  The island has many small coves, remote beaches and staggering cliff top views.  St Lucia is often described by her inhabitants as 'The Helen of the west', such is her natural beauty.  The island has so much to offer, often regarded as a romantic getaway.  The cricket world cup held in St Lucia recently created an awareness of this destination and helped to raise the island to a top class tourist destination.

Whats there?

Lush and tropical, St Lucia demands to be explored to the fullest. Some of the most beautiful scenery in the world can be seen in this one small island, with rain forests, majestic mountain peaks, picturesque fishing villages, gracious town squares and beautiful beaches. Since 1979, St Lucia has been independent and since then Castries has become the capital city. The main port is a popular cruise-ship destination and a haven for yachtsmen. The old French Capital Soufriere is a quaint fishing village and actually sits in what was once a volcanic crater, Mount Soufriere, a dormant volcano known as the 'drive-in' volcano because it is possible to drive into its crater. South of Soufriere the national symbol of St Lucia, the Pitons, loom on the horizon which are twin volcanic cones

Investing in Overseas Property in St Lucia

Why invest?

The Island has much to offer and the property boom she is experiencing is expected to continue. Prices have been seen to rise in some instances by 40% per annum, and projections suggest that a trend of between 15 and 20% per annum over the next 5 years is more than achievable and likely to happen. The only stipulation to owning land or property on the island is that you must acquire an aliens land holding license, which can be obtained fairly easily via a St Lucian based law firm.

The Marquis Estate St Lucia

About the Marquis Estate

The Marquis Estate is a 600-acre plantation that dates back to 1723. Part of its beauty is found in its original volcanic creation, and would have been one of the first part of the island to be formed. 70 million years of weathering has created a lush, dramatic landscape of mountain ridges, gentle slopes and the wide and graceful river valley. The Marquis Estate was at one time well established as one of the largest sugar estates on the island but more recently these fields were flowing with the leaves of the banana plant. Many elements of the estates past can still be found but the mot impressive element is its lush tropical beauty.
