Iolite Jewellery - the Water Sapphire

Ranked #6,632 in Fashion & Beauty, #100,962 overall

About Iolites

Iolite is a semi-precious stone also called the water sapphire. It is valued for its rare quality: Iolites change colour depending on how they are viewed. Usually a purple-blue, Iolite can appear almost colourless, and any shade in between. This quality makes them popular as accent stones, but Iolites also stand out when set on their own.

Iolite in Jewellery making

If you want to make your own Iolite jewellery, the stones can be purchased cheaply online. However when buying an Iolite it helps if you can examine it, or at least see photographs of it from many different angles. This is because a properly cut Iolite will show different colours from different angles.

It is a hard stone and can be set as bracelets, pendants, necklaces, rings and more.

Iolite used with other stones

Iolite as an accent

Because of its colour changing properties, Iolite is often used to accent other stones. Usually these are precious gemstones, but it can provide an interesting contrast the Amythest and other semi precious stones.

In the examples below it is set alongside Amythest, Peridot and other stones. Note how different it looks depending on the setting and light.
