iPad 2 skins have a far more thinner, form fitting design when compared to a leather iPad 2 case or case/stand combo. Because of this, iPad 2 skins are better at maintaining the look and feel of your iPad 2. While I wouldn't recommend going with an iPad 2 skin if you heavily abuse your iPad (especially not a vinyl skin), a skin will protect your iPad 2 during everyday use (especially the back of your iPad 2) as well as from scrapes while storing it in a backpack or purse.

Vinyl vs Rubberized iPad 2 Skins

Generally when referring to a skin for an iPad 2 or other device, there are two kinds:
1. stick on skins which are usually vinyl.
2. Very thin usually rubberized skins.

To get a better feel for both of the iPad 2 skins (and to ultimately find the best one for you), here is a quick breakdown of each type.

Vinyl iPad 2 Skins
*Lightest, most form fitting solution
*2-Piece design (back and front around screen)
*Requires a careful eye (and hand) during installation
*Protect from scratches/scrapes, but do little for heavy impact (dents/dings)
*Incredibly customizable (read more below about custom iPad 2 skins)

Rubberized iPad 2 Skins
*1 Piece Design (wraps around your iPad 2 like a standard iPad 2 case)
*Protects around your iPad 2 along with the front and back
*Easy to put on and remove/reuse

1 Piece, Usually Rubberized/Silicon
