Do I need a screen protector for my iphone?
Since I bought an iphone 4 I have read several times that it is impossible to damage the screen. I would never have thought of creating a lens about screen protectors but finding some took me so long and was very confusing so I thought I would share my findings here.
Call me cynical but its made out of some form of glass enclosed in a metal frame. Basic mechanics indicates if you drop a window frame allowing it to land on one corner it will crack.

Front and Back?
Checking on line revealed numerous reports of screens cracking or becoming scratched. Time to do something about out.
Entering "iphone 4 screen protector" in google left me confused.
The first thing I realized was that I needed 2. One for the front and one for the back.
Then the confusion set in. So many different types ranging from 3 usd to 30 usd.

There are basically several different types.
Anti Scratch - Self explanatory. The very least you need basically a thin sheen of plastic you lay over your screen.
Anti Smudge - made of plastic that resists the oils produced by human skin which leave smudges on the iphone screen.
Privacy - Prevent other users from viewing your screen from the side as you use it. I suppose important 1. If you have a lot of confidential information and 3. you use your phone in a lot on public places . Trains and Tubes spring to mind.
Ultra Clear - Specifically for the new Iphone 4 screens
Mirror - as the name implies results in your phone becoming a mirror in standby mode.
I went for a a Ultra Clear type.
Some words of caution.
Read the reviews in Amazon relating to the protectors you are considering. There are some industrial strength protectors costing almost 30 usd which people swear by. They apparently do not work well with the new Iphone 4 screens reducing the screen brightness and clarity.
Several of the cheaper protectors simply will not adhere without bubbles remaining.
