1 To illustrate the diversity in custom iPhone and iPad Speck Case designs at Zazzle using the metaphor of a stage, props and a growing cast of over 170,000 custom Speck case designs;

The Stage Is Set

Making Sense of 170,000+ iPhone and iPad Case Designs

According to the main Zazzle page there were 37,894,838,471 customizable products available on Zazzle at the time of writing, though only a small percentage of these products were custom designed iPhone and iPad Speck hard cases. Nevertheless the number of each is significant with over 100,000 iPhone case designs and more than 70,000 iPad designs, of which 8,000 at least are tagged with 'music'.

Speck iPhone 4 hard cases are now compatible with Verizon and AT&T so there's now a much wider choice of Artsprojekt and Zazzle designs available.

With an interest in music and the performing arts and, having browsed through the staggering range as part of a Zazzle Store Builder search project looking at ways to help buyers make sense of the diversity of designs available, the idea of creating a visual attraction, a Stage with props, actors and equipment comprised entirely of iPhone and iPad cases, took shape.

Visitors would be more likely to remember the cases they have seen if there's a memorable context in which they are placed and the result would be something unique. A little bit of 'talent spotting' in the Zazzle market place led to an adequate number of examples that could be 'auditioned' for a role.

The end result you can see below. Note that the stage, set, props, players and orchestra are all entirely iPhone or iPad Speck hard case designs.

The Stage consists of several elements. The stage curtains are composed of rainbow stripes iPads by Bebops, the wooden stage oak floor by mvdesigns and the sakura cherry blossom backdrop by n1kishop

The Players

They have their exits and their entrances; And one man in his time plays many parts,

A Japanese Geisha girl plays the shamisen, a Japanese plucked stringed instrument like a lute, and a young girl plays a colorful recorder. There are many iPhone and iPad case design themes like these in the marketplace. Here are the two 'players' I've chosen for this performance.

Customize Your Own iPhone and iPad Cases

Easy to create your own iPhone and iPad designs

Of course you can always create your own custom design from the templates provided. Images that you use should be high resolution (at least 200 ppi) and at least the same size as, or larger than the design area and re-sized to fit.

Design area dimensions are 7.79" x 9.97" for the iPad, 3.11" x 5.13" for iPhone 3G/3GS case, and 2.5" x 4.71" iPhone 4 case. The difference between iPhone 3G and iPhone 4 design area is noteworthy as sometimes you will find that a design you upload to suit one model doesn't quite fit the other if there are visual elements at the edges of the image that need inclusion.

ZSB At Work

The Search features behind the panels below were made possible with the free Zazzle Store Builder software (ZSB). ZSB is software provided by Zazzle that allows anyone with a Zazzle account to retrieve products from the Zazzle marketplace and display them on their own web pages.

Setting up ZSB is not for the faint of heart. It does require you to have a website where you can host and run PHP files and possess more than a basic knowledge of PHP, CSS and HTML in order to customize it. The technicalities of ZSB are outside the scope of this lens but I've provided links in the bibliography. Additional information is available in the Associate Center when you log in to your Zazzle account.
