Appstore is getting competition!
Cydia brings some really good and useful app to jailbroken iPhones. However for developers monetizing these apps is complicated. As there is no built in checkout process in Cydia (like the AppStore), charging for an app becomes difficult. Though we have seen many Cydia apps being paid - buying the license from the developers is a complicated process. A single AppStore account for purchases is what makes the process so easy even with thousands of developers.
However Jay Freeman (Cycorder developer) has plans to create an App Store for Jailbroken iPhones. This would be a direct competition to the very sucessful Apple Appstore. Probably Apple had a hint of this as they recently tried to prove that Jailbreaking is illegal.
Cydia has been a home for rejected AppStore apps for long. Some popular Cydia Apps include Clippy, Winterboard customizations, My Media, etc
