iPod Movie Rentals - Is it a complete rip off? 

There are many iPod reviewers that have concluded that Apple's movie rental scheme is a very expensive way to get movies to our iPods (check out this review).

Now ipod movie rentals cost $3 to $4 each time we rent them. So at only six movies a month that does ad up real fast - to at least $18/month or more than $200 pa! And that is probably at the low end of likely spends.

This makes a subscription service (one low up-front fee for life-time membership and unlimited iPod movie downloads) look mighty fine indeed!

OK, you did not know you can get nearly FREE movies or FREE music or FREE games etc for you iPod, and you have already spent big bucks getting these things from Apple, right?

And what drives you crazy is how restricted your use is!

Well, Mac users, at least can get a break. Senuti have developed a free software program that will let you copy all your iTune downloads FROM your iPod to your harddrive (and then to...)! Now Apple does not want you to do illegal copying of copyrighted material, so they don't give you the option of copying (but is it their choice? and is this illegal if you already paid for it!!)

But now this software from Senuti allows Mac users to copy their movies and music from their iPOd to their hard drive. If you've used iTunes, you can use Senuti. Just highlight the music or video that you wish to transfer to your hard drive, "click" and the movie or music will be copied to your hard drive.

How to use your iPod to ACE your presentation 

Its amazing how many of us end up doing a course - either out of passion or necessity! In fact, 79% of adults in the USA complete at least one course after they leave school!!

Now if you are one of those, then your iPod can be
used to give pizazz to any presentation you have to do to complete the course - AND it takes the spotlight off YOU!!

Its real easy and you just need your iPOd and some FREE software tools.

Using a video clip or movie clip in your presentation makes it easier for you to wow your audience and take their eyes off you for a bit!!

And you can use just about any video or movie you can find on the internet, that suits your topic. Cut a clip of the movie you fancy, and you are ready to go!

To do this you can use open-source video editing tools that let you take snapshots and screen captures from whatever you see on your screen. One such widely used tool is the freeware CamStudio. It captures, edits and creates AVI files that you can then output as SWF files.

You can then convert the formats to iPod format using Vixy.

It is best to check with your college for availability of and support for presentation equipment.

When the iPod Video was introduced back in '05 the amount of content people could download to their iPod increased dramatically. The most important of these (obviously) was the introduction of iPod Movies. On this page I will show you how I download enormous amounts of iPod Movies... FREE!

iPodlinux

iPodlinux is a free open source project that is dedicated to letting iPod users put linux on their iPod.

Adding linux to your iPod increases the iPods programming capabilities to much more than the firmware that apple sells the iPod with. I find it's great to show to my friends that have iPods without linux because they can only wish their iPod can do what mine does. And remember that iPodLinux is a free open source site!

iLounge

The iLounge is a user created site where you can submit questions and get them answered by other iPod enthusiasts.

It also acts as a third party news provider on the latest iPod developments. It is updated at least once a day (usually more often then that) and contains the opinions of every day "techies" that offer their opinions on apples famous mp3 player.

As I consider myself an early adopter the iLounge is a place that I like to read frequently to stay ahead of the technology curve.

iPod Wikipedia

iPod From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia.

Includes the history of the iPod, different types of iPod, current uses of the iPod, and latest iPod developments.

Of particular note is wikipedias excellent information on the iPods software - which is something that most users don't spend a lot of time thinking about - even though iPod software is something that you should at least have a small understanding of.

Wikipedia also covers battery issues with the iPod - and you'll want to read this section in particular because the iPod battery cannot be removed easily - though apple has put a replacement program in place. Wikipedia covers this very thoroughly.

Apples official iPod site

This is Apples official iPod page. It also allows you to download it's music sharing program iTunes for free.

On the things that I particularly like about Apples official iPod site is the updates you get on it's hardware.

This is particularly useful if you've only just bought an iPod and don't know what it's functions are - as the functionality is always changing. Plus I find that most shop assistants just don't know what they are talking about - so it's good for peace of mind to get iPod information from the company that made it :-)

iPod Hacks

This is one of my favorite "secret" iPod resources.

Many propellor heads hang out here and talk about cool iPod modifications that they have developed.

Some build insane add-on devices for their iPod, like mega aub woofers. Others are content upgrading their iPod firmware. Some turn their iPod into mini super computers.

Whatever you want to achieve with your iPod you can be sure that someone from iPod Hacks has laready found a way to do it.
