Video Conversion
This is a guide on how to easily convert from any video format to iPod or iPhone compatible video. It is made from a Mac users point of view, but will work in Windows as well. With this method, I can convert a DVD quality movie (HD takes longer) in around half of its playing time, with perfect quality, from practically any format to iPod, iPhone, or Apple TV format. You could even make a .mov video just to make it use .h264 encoding, which is the best and newest there is now. All of these conversions will result in an .h264 encoded movie in either .m4v or .mov format. Perfect for viewing on any apple machine (iPod, iPhone, Apple TV) or the Xbox 360.

Convert From DVD
Using Handbrake
To go straight from a DVD to a .h264 movie, simply use Handbrake, and tell pick the format you want to convert it to. Make sure you select 2 pass encoding. Even though this will make it take twice as long, the quality will be twice as good.
Convert From Other Video
Using Quicktime
To go from another video to .h264 encoding, use Quicktime Pro. To upgrade to Quicktime Pro, all you need is to enter the serial number on the registration screen for Quicktime, and you will have Quicktime Pro.
The first step here is to give Quicktime the ability to play the movie you want to open. It is probably an Xvid video, so just download the DivX plugin (for Windows for Mac) and install it.
If you're on a Mac, also download Perian which will let you open .mkv files as well.
Now with this installed, open the movie you want to convert in Quicktime, and select "Export" from the file menu. Now pick what you want it to export as, and tell it to start. Wait a while, and you're done.
