Living In Iraq And Afghanistan

Hi. My husband David spent the last five years living and working as a civilian contractor in Iraq, Afghanistan, Dubai, and Kuwait. He finally said enough is enough and came home to us in November of 2008. He traveled from base to base and from city to city, from country to country, depending on the job. We have been writing a site about his travels called www.iraq-up-close-and-personal.com . Please check it out, especially if you are going to Iraq or Afghanistan as a soldier or a civilian or if you have family members going there.

You will find a ton of useful information such as how to get a job there, living conditions, war conditions, what the people think of us, and the climate.

5 Reasons To Visit Our Website

www.iraq-up-close-and-personal.com

We have a website about Iraq and what to expect when you go there during the war. The website is www.iraq-up-close-and-personal.com .

1. David spent 4 years in Iraq and has spent the last year in Kabul, Afghanistan. He has experienced Iraqi insurgent attacks and writes about them.
2. He gives useful information on each base he has worked at.
3. He tells you how to mail care packages to Iraq.
4. He gives information on how hot it really gets in the Iraqi desert.
5. He lets you know about camel spiders and sand flies. Are they real? You bet they are.

Getting A Civilian Job In Iraq

Pretty Easy!

Getting a civilian job in Iraq is not hard to do. But keep in mind that it is a dangerous place. Yes, the money can be great, but you could lose your life at any moment. You will be in combat zones and bombings. I have been in many.

I have several pages on my site about how and where to apply for jobs in Iraq and in Afghanistan as well. The best place to go is www.militaryhire.com if you have had prior military experience. I get the most e-mails on jobs over there. With the economy the way it is right now and jobs hard to come by in the United States, people are more willing than ever to go to Iraq.

Start out on my site at this page.

Also, for a good listing of companies hiring right now, see this article.

Don't misunderstand. I am not a job finder. I get no money for providing this information to you and I cannot hire you. I am just an employee myself.

There is also informationon my site about taxes, climate, accomodations on bases, communicating with your family, getting paid, and the list goes on and on. See the feed below for the latest articles that I write. Good luck!

Living In Afghanistan

So Different Than Iraq

I went home from Iraq for the last time in October of 2007, thinking that after 4 years of service as a civilian in Iraq I would stay home with my family. 5 days later, I got a phone call from a company that I had applied with many months before. The company offered me a job in Afghanistan making more money than ever before so I felt I could not turn it down.

You see, I had paid off a lot of bills with the money I made in Iraq, but I still had plenty more. So off I went to Kabul. Soon my contract will be over. They are for 1 year a time. I will go home to my family for Thanksgiving and then come back for another year so we can get everything paid off.

Afghanistan is not dry and hot like Iraq. It is a beautiful, mountainous, cool country. The people, except for the Taliban, are good. Just like your regular Iraqi people. I worked with many and they were fine people who were happy we were in their country helping them! Don't listen to the media.

Anyway, I am finishing up my first year contract and am looking forward to a Thanksgiving at home. I almost got to have Thanksgiving at home last year, but I left 2 weeks prior. So I will be home for a few weeks and then will go home next May for my oldest son's wedding. Hard to believe!
