iRig by IK Multimedia - review and actual usage

I have a small office/practice space in my home. I use my iPad and iPhone for guitar practice so that I don't have to "fire" up the amp and setup all my other gear, pedals, patch cables, etc.

The iRig Amplitube does a great job of filling in for the other equipment. If I want to practice outside on the deck or my office at work then I use the iRig. I also use the iRig Mic for vocals.

So what is an iRig Amplitube?

iRig review

I like the iRig and I am glad I bought it. Having said that it is a shame that you are lured in by the great hardware only to find that you have to buy the software as well.

I didn't buy the software. The package that IK Multimedia has is called Amplitude.

What I did was buy Garage Band for the iPad and iPhone 4. It is better than the basic software from IK Multimedia for 4.99 USD.

Overall I would give this little accessory 4 out of 5 stars because of its versatility. I can use it with my iPad or iPhone.

Specs:
Works on iPhone/iPod touch/iPad
1/4" female mono input jack connector
1/8" female stereo output mini-jack connector
Connect electric guitar and bass
Also works with line level signals from synthesizers, keyboards, mixers
Output can be connected to headphones, amplifiers, powered speakers, mixers

Compatibility:
The iRig adapter is compatible with iPhone 4S, iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, iPhone 3G, iPod touch (4th, 3rd and 2nd generation), iPad 2 and iPad.
