The Irish Flute
Welcome to my page about the Irish Flute. I have been learning to play the irish flute for a few years now, and it has become my preferred musical instrument. There are many resources online that relate to the Irish Flute. Either to the music genre, the flutes themselves, or to learning to play, or meeting other flute players. I hope to bring an interesting selection of those resources together on this page.
What do I mean by the Irish Flute?
While this page is about the irish flute as an instrument, it is also about irish flute music as a style of music, and this is sometimes played on a silver flute. You don't necessarily need a wooden "Irish" flute to pay Irish flute music.
A Guide to the Irish Flute I haven't even scratched the surface, and I'm sure you are going to want to know more. You will find lots of information here. Don't miss the interview section.
Chiff and Fipple
If you are interested in playing the Irish Flute, or Whistle, then this is *the* web site to visit.
Kerry Whistle
There are some great movies to watch(in the "movies" section), and Phil does a regular webcast (in the MP3 section).
Folk Flute
The Casey Burns Folk Flute is a good, reasonably priced, introduction into the world of playing the irish flute.
Mad for Trad
Mad for Trad have produced some excellent tutorial CDroms for Flute (with Seamus Egan) and Whistle (with Brian Finnegan from Flook). Off Topic here, but the Accordion one with Karen Tweed is also excellent.
The Irish Flute tutorial I can also highly recommend the "Irish Flute tutorial" by June McCormack. It really helped me to make sense of playing the irish flute in the irish style.

This is another web site I use. Want to find the dots for a tune, or who has recorded it? Then the Session is the place to go.
Mike Harding Show
I sometimes listen to the Mike Harding Show - online, using the BBC's Listen Again feature. There is also a virtual session (useful for learning tunes), and a message board.
