Irish Lad Seeks Lass...

You met a guy how?!?
So it was the year 2000. No one had really heard of Internet dating yet. It was still a time of the paper classified ads. Remember those? "SWM seeks SWF for relationship. Enjoys fine wine and dancing." You get the point. Think the "Pina Colada" song. Anyway, I was waitressing my way through college at the time and we used to sit and laugh at the classifieds on our breaks. It was simply a way to pass the time.
Anyway, one evening I was bored, so I hopped on this new-fangled thing they called the "World Wide Web". I stumbled upon love@aol.com (or something to that effect as we argue about it now) which was free at the time, imagine that. On this site were hundreds, heck, thousands of basically classified ads to read. It was hilarious. So I read, laughed, read, laughed, read and laughed for hours. Then something quite unexpected happened. I read an ad titled "Irish Lad Seeks Lass" and didn't laugh at all. There was an ad that was "it". My completed list. My "one".
I was fairly freaked out at that point and shut down the computer immediately. But I couldn't stop thinking about the ad that completely described the person I didn't even know I was looking for. After days of agonizing, I finally e-mailed him. He e-mailed back quickly and we were both hopelessly addicted to the computer for about a month. Then we made a plan to meet...

Who doesn't love "The Pina Colada" song?
Wow, that is one cheesy video!
Why don't you say you met him at a basketball game or something?
So the plans were set. I happened to be going near his city (about an hour away from mine) with a couple of friends of mine who agreed to come along, well, just in case. We were going to meet at an outdoor restaurant. I knew he was six feet with glasses and brown hair. He knew I was a short brunette. No pictures had been exchanged or anything, but still I knew I was meeting my soul mate that day.As we waited, my friends had a ball. Every awful guy that walked by was "him". The wait was torturous. But then I saw him walking a block away and ours eyes met. That was it. I was done and in love on the spot. He says it was the same for him.
Even after we were together everyone hated our "meeting" story. They kept telling us to tell people we met at a basketball game or a bar or something. And my parents were horrified, until they met him. Then they liked him as much as I did.
So here we are twelve years later. We've been happily married for nine and half years and have three beautiful children. We have a house and work together since we own our own business. Never would I have guessed that I was to meet my soul mate that night I sat down at the computer. Thank you to love@aol for my entire life!

- Oh, see my comment above, we met on an online Genealogy site. Sometimes by having a long distance relationship you are forced to learn everything about each other, you have to talk etc, because you can't be together, and so it's a lot easier in some ways to know if a person is right for you or not.

- I met my true love through my brother, they were best friends. When we met I was going through a divorce and was pretty much an emotional wreck. At first I didn't think it was possible to be with him, he was too "good" for me. Still, the attraction was there! Once we actually started talking it became apparent that he was the peanut butter to my jelly, lol! We really hit it off and knew we were destined to be together. Now we're happily married! :)
