"VRooooomba! VRooooomba! You should see this little guy go!"
"VRooooooooomba! VRooooooooooomba! Seeing Roomba--the iRobot 560 vacuum cleaner--run around my daughter's house like "The Little Engine That Could" makes me smile. In fact, when they first got it, the whole family gathered around to watch it suck up the dirt and see what happened when it approached obstacles and how easily navigable it is. An added treat was watching their little black dachshund, Molly, chase it around as though it were her new playmate. What a riot! We laughed like crazy!

When Debbie first phoned to tell me she had bought an iRobot, I laughed out loud. I had seen the early versions of the robot vacuum and was not impressed. The suction wasn't that good and navigation almost nil. What did she want with something like that when she has a $1600 precision-made German model ... full size? Another toy? Just another "conversation piece," an item that would be fun but rather useless?

Deb has always liked gadgets, the newest playthings, and after the novelty wore off, I figured this latest one would be stuck in the closet along with other products she'd purchased from Sharper Images through the years. Oh, well, it's her money, and to each her own.

How wrong I was! She's very pleased with the dramatically improved navigation, cleaning coverage, particle filtration, and the amount of dirt and debris the Roomba 560 vacuuming robot sucks up--with a simple touch of a button. To hear her tell it, Roomba sucks up more dirt than an octopus sucks up sea water with all eight tentacles operating simultaneously.

Another feature she finds indispensable is the easy-to-empty bagless dustbin, always a popular feature in a vacuum. Roomba also returns to its self-charging home-base to dock and recharge between cleaning cycles or when the battery starts to run low. (No, it doesn't go there on its own, the owner has to place it there. It's smart, but not THAT smart. ... lol ...) Its home base is an advanced power system consisting of a fast-charging battery, a three-hour charger, and a power source that supercharges the unit for up to 120 minutes of continuous cleaning, covering about three to four average-size rooms on a single charge. And those are only a few of the Roomba 560's innovative features; for full features, please check under DESCRIPTION on the product page.

Debbie still uses her regular vacuum once weekly, but swears by Roomba for all clean-ups in between. She says she would feel safe in relying on her robot full-time, but in using both, she's adding to their life spans. That seems sensible to me.

The Roomba is quiet and programmable too, and once it learns the dimensions of a room, you should see this little guy go. It's just as determined to do its job as the little choo-choo in "The Little Engine That Could." VRooooooooooooomba! VRoooooooooooooomba!"

"Coolest thing ever..."

"I bought this vacuum three weeks ago. I have only had to break out the big vacuum once in that time. With three dogs in the house, vacuuming was a daily necessity. Programing the 560 took less than a minute. It runs at night while we sleep and cleans three large rooms. Once room is tile with three large wool area rugs and lots of furniture. It gets under the tables and around bar stools with no problems. The light houses keep it in one room for about 35-40 minutes then move it on to the next. The other rooms are hardwood with several area rugs. The Roomba easily climbs over the rugs and gets the dirt. We used to find hair balls daily with a husky in the house. No more...

I have to admit that I was a skeptic when it came to these products. Now I am completely sold on them. A second unit upstairs keeps all the carpets free of hair. I can't think of a better gift for parents or newly weds."

"Surpassed my expectations!"

"I honestly thought this would not be effective at all. I have (had actually) a very dirty smooth garage floor with all kinds of shelves etc. under which I was almost afraid to look. Unleashing the DOG, it filled up with crud quickly, and I emptied several loads per cycle. The DOG kicked up very little dust, and after a few runs the floor looked almost new. There's no vacuum, it's just brooms guiding the stuff into the collection tray. To get this level of clean without moving cars etc out of the way is impressive. Given my low expectations, I was compelled to give a good review to my new friend."

By Jorie Ditota "TXTNT" (Woodstock, GA)
"Dirt Dog is my friend!"

"I love dirt dog! I have 3 I-Robots now. Love 'em all. They are running as I write. I have two labs that shed a pound a hair a day, it is just laughable. I started with a Roomba Scheduler (I baby it and keep it clean after every use) and have now added dirt dog to our pack(a lot less parts to clean than Roomba.) I then set Scooba to finish the details. My life is so much easier.

Some complain of the noise, but I can at least talk on the phone or to another person when they are running. Try doing that over a traditional vacuum cleaner.

I do have to make sure my floors are cord free. We have streamed floors from cords to make these awesome robaot work for us.

I use compressed air and blow them out after everyuse, because they do pick up an amazing amount of dirt and hair. I want these robot to hang around for a long time. I've had my Roomba since since 2006. I've only had to buy a new battery for old Roomba once. I've also, unscrewed my Roomba and Dirt Dog to give them a deep through cleaning too.

All of this versus me sweeping everyday...I will never be without one."

By Dean Sherrill (Columbia, Mo United States)
"Good job, little buddie!"

"I bought this having no prior experience with Roombas. It keeps my garages and workout room clean. It is meant for hard surfaces only. I have found it best to clean it thoroughly on a regular basis. It is amazing how much dog hair, dead bugs, leaves, etc. it collects, even in an area that looks OK to start with. My work areas have never been cleaner, and without much effort on my part! I just bought another for my Dad for Christmas, and recommend it to my friends and customers."

iRobot Roomba 410 Intelligent Floorvac Robotic Vacuum Cleaner-Red

Grab the iRobot Roomba 410 Vacuum at the Lowest Price!

Product Description
Sporting a bold, solid-red exterior, this entry-level robotic floorvac is easy to use and includes an array of convenient features. Simply press the "clean" button and the unit will vacuum the whole floor, adjusting automatically to any floor surface including wood, tile linoleum, and low-to-medium pile carpet. The vacuum's artificial intelligence determines the room size and adjusts the run time to ensure that it cleans the entire floor. Integrated sensors detect dirt and will increase the focus and intensity of cleaning in that area, while infra-red cliff sensors in the non-marring bumper detect stairs to keep the unit from falling, as well as furniture and walls for cleaning right up to the edge. The high-efficiency vacuum has a wide cleaning path and a three-stage cleaning system, which includes counter-rotating brushes that scoop large debris into the dustbin, plus a vacuum to pick up fine particles, dirt, and pet hair. This unit has one of the highest CPRs (coverage per room) in the industry and can get floors cleaner than conventional upright vacuums with the ability to clean where they can't, like under beds, couches, and other furniture. Its edge-cleaning spinning sidebrush, combined with wall-following technology, removes dirt and debris from the base of walls, from corners, and other hard-to-reach places. The vacuum's stasis sensor detects when it's stuck and employs pre-programmed escape routines to free itself, while setting up a virtual wall, an invisible beam of light, confines the unit to a designated area, great for one-room cleaning. The vacuum's advanced power system consists of a fast-charging battery, a seven-hour charger, and a power source--it supercharges the unit for up to 120 minutes of continuous cleaning. You can also purchase Roomba's 4900 Self-Charging Drive-On Home Base as an accessory. With this, when the battery is low or it has completed a cleaning cycle, the vacuum automatically returns to the charging Home Base, so that it will be ready for the next cleaning session. The bagless unit is designed with an easy-to-empty debris bin that is three times the size of other robotic floorvacs so it doesn't have to be emptied as often. Convenient cleaning modes include Spot mode, which sets the unit to quickly and intensely clean in a 3-foot diameter. Replaceable air filters prevent dust and dirt from escaping back into the air, and removable-by-hand brushes allow for quick, routine maintenance. A battery, charger, virtual-wall unit, and filter pack are included. The vacuum measures approximately 13 inches in diameter by 4 inches high and carries a one-year warranty.

Product Features
*Entry-level robotic floorvac with dirt detection and infra-red cliff sensors
*Auto adjusts to any floor surface; 2-hour continuous cleaning; easy-to-empty debris bin
*Edge-cleaning sidebrush; stasis sensor; virtual wall for confining to designated area
*Battery charger, 1 virtual wall, and filter pack included
*Measures approximately 13 by 4 inches; 1-year warranty

"Awesome device! Get one!"

"First off, I want to say - get this product through Amazon directly. The third party resellers don't appear to stock product inventory and it can take weeks to ship (had to cancel a previous order from a third party reseller for this reason).

As for the iRobot Roomba 410:

Awesome little device. I use it downstairs in my kitchen and living area. I have two cats and a stained concrete floor and it does a magnificent job picking up cat hair and other miscellaneous dirt, bugs, etc. The first time I ran it, after only 20 minutes, I stopped it and opened the dust bin - pulled out a massive ball of cat hair and dust I wasn't even aware was on the floor. Over time, the amount of debris I have extracted from the unit has decreased substantially indicating it is doing its job. Fantastic - exactly why I bought it!

The cats love it; they follow it around and jump out of the way when it decides to suddenly turn in their direction.

Like any mechanical device, there are a few quirks and things to be aware of:

1.) It can get hung on power cords and rug edges. Watch the unit for the first few times you run it and (if possible) modify your space to eliminate these hazards (I taped down my rugs in a few places which helped a lot). Afterwards, you can let it run without worry.
2.) It has a small dust bin and as such, may need to be stopped and emptied every 20 minutes or so (at least on the first few runs, or until the room starts to become clean).
3.) Let it run until the battery goes down (about 45-60 minutes). This maximizes battery duration and performance. Accept the fact that the battery will expire in a year or so (maybe less) and you'll have to buy a replacement from iRobot (50 bucks, big deal).
4.) The unit is made almost entirely of plastic. I estimate a life expectancy of approximately 4-5 years, maybe longer if I clean it regularly and replace the brushes, bearings, etc. when needed (all available for order in iRobot's website). By that time, I'm sure iRobot will have 4th or maybe 5th generation Roombas available and I'll definitely be in the market for a new one!
5.) Don't expect it to return to its charging base every time. In my case it usually doesn't. I just pick it up and set it on the charger (maybe one day it will find it on its own and surprise me).

Overall, I'd give it a 9 out of 10. It efficiently does the job it is designed for, has a great "coolness" factor and it is a heck of a lot of fun to watch!"

By Wayne Hulshof II "NewMacUser" (Boca Raton, FL USA)
"Excellent robot vacuum!"

"This is the fourth roomba that I've owned and I love them. Even this most basic model expertly picks up dog hair around the house. I run this vacuum at least 3 days a week and it is perfect for cleaning up while I am out. No complaints."
