Iron Man: Extremis | Comic Book Review
Ranked #1,676 in Books, Poetry & Writing, #72,075 overall
Iron Man #1 - #6 (2005)
Iron Man: Extremis collects the first six issues of Iron Man for 2005 into one story arc. For anyone who likes the more serious, edgy, action-oriented side of Iron Man, this is pretty much the best story arc since the 80's. With a script by Warren Ellis and illustrations by Adi Granov, Extremis could hardly have failed to be a good story.
In Extremis, Iron Man faces off against one of the most terrifying foes he's ever had, and there's no guarantee he'll come out of us unscathed. This story arc updates Iron Man into the 21st century in a big way, and deals with the implications of modern technology on his universe.
For any Iron Man fan, this is a must-read to get you back into the new world of Iron Man comics, with a more adult twist on the stuff you read when you were a kid.
5 Reasons Iron Man: Extremis is Awesome
- 1The digitally painted graphics from Adi Granov are fantastic, and really bring the story to life. Even the icky bits.
- 2Tony is back to his slightly bitter, slightly alcoholic, but still world-saving self. It's good to see the Tony Stark we all know and love back in action.
- 3The story itself is chilling, exciting, and has that touch of realism that I think needs to be there in a serious superhero comic.
- 4The extras in the back make my geeky heart happy. Sure, they're standard-issue for hardback collections, but I really like these ones. I'd have picked it up just for the extras, honestly.

Old Iron Man or New Iron Man?
Spectacular Artwork by Adi Granov in Iron Man: Extremis
One of the best parts of Extremis is the brilliant artwork by Adi Granov, one of the best comic book illustrators working today. The style is something like a more grown-up version of a children's comic book - there are still the familiar outlines, but the shading and colour work is much more sophisticated. Honestly, if this book was all pictures and no storyline at all, I'd still want to own a copy. It's really something you have to see for yourself, but I'd be surprised if anyone who loves comic books didn't love the artwork in Extremis.
Read Iron Man: Extremis
Iron Man: Extremis is a classic new Iron Man story arc written by Warren Ellis and illustrated by Adi Granov. In it, Iron Man is faced by a new challenge that terrifies the modern real world on a daily basis - the threat of a bio-weapon. It sees him reunited with some old friends, and in the style of the new, more realistic Iron Man storylines, winning the day isn't without it's costs.
Personally, I was glad I bought this as a hardback copy in the first place instead of getting the first issue when it came out - waiting to see what was going to happen would have killed me. I read this all in one sitting, completely oblivious to the rest of the world for the time. I'd call that a pretty good book.

- I prefer the old traditional Iron Man but the graphics on the new version are incredible, probably best not to compare!

- Not a big fan of Iron Man, I prefer Thor (I know I always pick the loosers and less cool super heroes) but I agree Adi Granov art is pretty cool

- Oh, I don't think Thor is a loser at all - he's everyone's favourite Avenger, after all! Not overly happy with the casting for the new movie, but I'm all for the character.
