Iron Fist, who's real name is Daniel Rand, is a fictional character in the Marvel Comics universe. Iron Fist was created by Roy Thomas and Gil Kane, and first appeared in Marvel Premiere #15 (May 1974). Iron Fist emerged during the 1970's largely due to a high demand for 'kung fu' heroes at the time.

Skills and Abilities

Iron Fist is an exceptional athlete, acrobat, and hand-to-hand combatant. He is a master of all of K'un-Lun's martial arts and is said to be trained in the use of virtually all martial arts weapons. As part of his training, he has near-complete control over his nervous system, enabling him to deaden himself to pain.

Through concentration, Iron Fist can harness his spiritual energy (chi) to augment his physical and mental capabilities to peak human levels. By focusing his chi into his hand, he can tap the superhuman energy of Shou-Lao* making his fist superhumanly powerful, immune to pain and injury, hence the name, Iron Fist.

* Rand claimed the power of Shou-Lao the Undying, a man transformed into a mystic serpent over a thousand years.
