Restaurants I Frequent
- Le Moulin: They may be a caterer primarily, but their small walk-in cafe is great for a midday sandwich. Among my favorites: the French baguette with rosette de Lyon, and the prosciutto di Parma.
- Rich Bean Bakery & Cafe: Their coffee beans are insanely expensive, but the Tirolese and Caprese sandwiches are quite nice. If you get it to go, you get chips. Planning to stay? You get a side salad.
- Haru Hana: A laid-back sushi place just up the hill from where I work. The Nabe Yaki Udon is good, and the shrimp enormous. Gil recommends the beef teriyaki.
- Irvington Pizzeria & Restaurant: A nice place to get a cheap slice, but maybe not the place to order a pie for pickup. If you get a slice in the middle of the afternoon, you might get swamped by tweens, because it's across the street from the school.
- New China: Plain as Jane Chinese takeout. The egg drop soup is passable, and the chicken chop suey simple. You might have to ask for steamed, not fried rice.
- Broadway Grill: This bar and grill at the top of the hill claims the best burgers in town. Given the competition, they're not far off! Quality fare, even the chili.
- Solera: Located near the river, this tapas bar and restaurant features outdoor seating, good food, and (reportedly) slow service.
- The Red Hat: Wonderful lunch menu, interesting art, and a cute wait staff makes this my new favorite restaurant.
- ...Sweet Potatoes Too: Located in the back of the Irvington International Market near the top of Main Street, this small food stand sells soul food and daily specials. The mac and cheese is awesome!

Transportation Options
- Metro-North Railroad: I take the train up the Hudson Line from Grand Central Terminal every weekday. There's a pedestrian tunnel that dips under the tracks, and the old station building used to be an architect's office.
- Hastings Taxi: Only one taxi service in the area operates after Metro-North stops running, and it's not even in Irvington. If you work late, oh, so late, and still need to get back to Manhattan, this is who you should call: 914-478-1234.
