Is a Cherry a berry, or a fruit?

Q: Is a Cherry a berry, or a fruit?

A: A fruit!

A Cherry is a red fruit with a single hard stone.

A berry is a simple, fleshy fruit that usually has lots of seeds e.g. banana, tomato, and cranberry. The middle and inner layers of the fruit wall are often not very distinct.

Fruit, in a strict sense, is the fleshy or dry ripened ovary of a plant, enclosing the seed or seeds. So, apricots, bananas, and grapes, as well as bean pods, corn grains, tomatoes, cucumbers, and (in their shells) acorns and almonds, are all technically fruits. Popularly, however, the term is restricted to the ripened ovaries that are sweet and either succulent or pulpy (like the cherry).
