great lens! I love that you have a good debate and find the other responses quite interesting. How funny that I never even thought people perceived trick or treating as begging, you learn something new everyday!

I never did either when I lived in the states.

LOVE costumes but don't care for the modern day 'trick or treat' gig. Excellently crafted 5 star page here! A+

Personally I don't like Trick or Treating. I'm in the UK so it's not like there's a lot of it here anyway but I think it's different these days too. When I was a kid I knew everyone in my village, now most people are strangers who commute to work miles away. The sense of community seems a bit lost. I like the idea of schools doing parties though, that's a better way to do it I think.

To me its encouraging kids into mindless activities that is based on something most people know nothing about, like burning live people at the stake for their lack of religious faith or what ever. Its also disgusting in the guises and gear that people dress up in. Good lens for a debate

Thanks God it's only for one night.

I think it's beginning to be more dangerous and
more and more people are throwing "Hallowen parties at school
or community centre" to make it more safe.

I think it's begging but in a fun way.

Great discussion. I guess it just all depends on how you perceive things :)

Halloween is sometimes called Beggar's Night so maybe it is begging. It is an accepted form of begging though.

That's a great lens! I love Halloween but my country forgot about Samonios with the advent of the Christianity so, we celebrate The Day of the Deads and All Saints Day here instead of Halloween. However, the young generation tends to appreciate Halloween - especially the kids, of course - but it's hard to make adults participate into the event and hard to gather friends to enjoy a fun Halloween night.
Anyway, I personally prefer funny celebrations than sad ones. And Halloween is, in my opinion a lot of fun - but I understand that some countries don't celebrate it and some people don't want to hear about it. I'm the kind of person who respects a lot people's culture and don't want them to stick to mine :)
Gave 5 stars to your lens and also will lensroll it to my Happy Halloween lens!
    Dom.

Halloween has always been one of my favorite holidays. Not because of the trick or treating but love seeing the little children in their costumes, laughing and enjoying themselves. Interesting lens.

When it's not socially acceptable to trick or treat, as it is apparently in New Zealand - it's better not to do it. The custom only works if it's supported by the community. Only then it's festive.

great halloween lens btw - blessed by a squidangel today :)

I think the kids have fun, and they are not doing thinking that is begging.
You create well done lens, fun too.

I love Halloween and seeing the kids dressed up and don't consider it begging at all but you have a good discussion going here. Lensrolling to my Halloween Trunk or Treat

This is an interesting discussion. I do enjoy Halloween trick or treating,,,but have never given the begging aspect much thought. Since retirement we have been on vacation most Halloweens so we really don't participate anymore. Thanks for taking this one on.

I'm really blessed by having such a wonderful neighborhood to live in! Halloween's a big deal here, and almost everyone, from young to old, seems to enjoy it! My kids have always loved the magic and excitement of the evening way more than the candy! (Especially one of my kids who used to not even be able to eat the candy due to food allergies, but still dearly loved getting dressed up in a costume and going out in the cool night air!)

I enjoyed your lens very much as it brought back wonderful memories!

What an interesting discussion! I know the tradition is quickly changing, but I honestly had never considered Trick or Treat to be begging - safety has been my main concern. Blessed by a SquidAngel!
