Sir Isaac Newton was an English physicist, mathematician, astronomer, natural philosopher, alchemist, and theologian, and is considered by many scholars and members of the general public to be one of the most influential people in human history. His Philosophiæ Naturalis Principia Mathematica (Latin for "Mathematical Principles of Natural Philosophy"; usually called the Principia), published in 1687, is one of the most important scientific books ever written. It lays the groundwork for most of classical mechanics. In this work, Newton described universal gravitation and the three laws of motion, which dominated the scientific view of the physical universe for the next three centuries. Posters about Isaac Newton
Newton's First Law of Motion:
Every object in a state of uniform motion tends to remain in that state of motion unless an external force is applied to it.
Isaac Newton and Physics for Kids: His Life and Ideas with 21 Activities
(For Kids series) [Paperback]
Newton's Second Law of Motion:
The relationship between an object's mass m, its acceleration a, and the applied force F is F = ma. Acceleration and force are vectors (as indicated by their symbols being displayed in slant bold font); in this law the direction of the force vector is the same as the direction of the acceleration vector.

Newton's Third Law of Motion:
For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction.

- What a wonderful lens this is. Physics doesn't have to be all about abstract mathematical concepts. It is also about the passion for discovery. Let Scientists like Newton handle the complicated stuff. After all he was amazing at it! That leaves the rest of us free to enjoy the journey in the realm of new discoveries conveniently summarized in layman's language.

- Great lens. (But you forgot to mention his work on color. Newton, after all, did invent the color wheel - so I've added a direct link to this lens from his name on my page: http://www.squidoo.com/using-color-in-your-home
